Tom says to have 55-60% of your weight on your front foot at the start of the backswing.
My question is does additional weight gradually shift to the front foot during the backswing?
As I do the various backswing drills, I have to do this to get my body to form a straight line on my front side when I’m at the top of my backswing. And my best swings are when I feel like all of my weight is on my front foot at the top of my backswing and my weight stays forward as I swing down and thru the ball.
Any help would be appreciated. I want to make sure I have the backswing correct before to start focusing on the transition, downswing and follow thru.
Thanks,
Mike
Absolutely critical, @Gerry_Lager!
In the discussion about weight forward I think it's important to add what you head should be doing. For myself I discovered when shifting my weight forward my head was also moving forward. It needs to stay in place through impact. I found this especially true when hitting driver. so make sure you concentrate on that also.
Hear that teacher!
Weather broke again in CO, looks like be able to get to range again tomorrow. Going to keep the 2:8 workout and to move to longer irons and maybe woods after get that feel again.
Have the video holder but thinking about waiting till I feel like I am repetitious and comfy. If it happens tomorrow I will video but most likely will just post here if I do one. I want to wait before I do a V1 with you.
@galloway8625 - You start with your weight forward (55/45 on the front side; 60/40 for the longer clubs), increase that same weight forward to the top of the backswing (70/30), and further increase the forward weight during the downswing from halfway down (80/20) through impact (90/10) and to the finish at 95/5 forward.
For anyone who is transitioning from a shift & lift type of swing (which is the vast majority of us), we probably need to get the feel that @Rudi (from Munich) referenced in his reply. This is the reason I developed the 90% Weight Forward/Arms Straight Drill. Also, the KFC Club episode he mentions is a good one, and I also teach the move in this Tailbone to Target lesson and drill.
Thats about percent
yes, if you do the holy grail swing (mentioned in KFC club)

not as much, if you use an active hip bump in the downswing.
But in both kinds of swing you must have more weight on the front foot.
So you seem to be on a good way.
Eric Axley (a Golf Pro) said 2006 after changing his swing, " the feeling was that I was swinging my hands back over my back foot and keeping 90 % of my weight on my front side".
