Tom: I'm sold on your "hands in" takeaway & I'm hitting all my clubs except my short irons well. For some reason, with my short irons and wedges, I "stand up" & top them. When I try to "hit down", my arms buckle in the downswing. Any ideas? Thanks!
@Greg Hill - If possible take some video of your swing with one off your problem clubs and then analyze it from the perspective of Early Extension, which you can learn more about in this diagnostic lesson from Fixing Common Swing Problems. If this seems to be the case, then there are a couple of drills aimed at resolving this issue that immediately follow.
@Greg Hill - For some reason your reply below hit my email instead of here in the Forum. I will respond beneath it.
"Thanks, Tom! That is my problem. Casting and standing up in the downswing, topping the ball mostly. I should work on the right arm only drills, correct? Thanks so much!
Greg"
Yes - the two trail arm drills that I referenced. Also, you can type "early extension" into the Forum search bar and check out some of the dialogue we've had here on the topic.
@Aakash Shah - Have a look at the Takeaway section of Fixing Common Swing Problems. This will help you to determine if your takeaway is behaving properly.
