Hi Tom
i note in section 6b you start the down swing with hips moving lateral towards the target, the effect of this is to shallow the club Path. But in your ‘old section‘ 3 i ii and iii you say the start is the forearm folding over dropping the club to horizontal before moving the hips. I get that this is also shallowing the path, but it’s very different action to 6b.
Which drill should I be following?
thanks.
James
Thanks James - I'm glad that helped and I'm very happy to know that you are enjoying the content!!
Have fun out there!!
thanks Tom that’s very helpful and by the way I’m loving your approach to teaching. Keep up the good work, it’s like a breath of fresh air. James
Hi James - I do my best to convey different "feels" or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible because we're all unique physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with he or she or me may not necessarily work for thee. The key takeaway here is that no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the same desired result - body-friendly, crispy, compressed ball striking bliss.
While there is really no need for you to be in the "Old Section", I don't see any inconsistencies with the downswing instruction. It's just an alternative way of thinking about it. Here's exactly what it states regarding proper downswing sequencing:
1. Right forearm begins rotating clockwise - this will prevent any over the top move from happening
2. Weight in lead leg begins to accumulate and move towards the target - the weight moving forward provides the club with the proper motion required to hit the ball from the proper position. It also prevents the club from diving into the ground.
3. As the weight accumulates to approximately 90% on your lead leg, initiate the process of hitting the golf ball hard with your right forearm. The sensation is as if you are hitting the golf ball like driving a hammer into a nail.
Going forward, so as not to confuse you please just work sequentially through the "new" section, and if you run into any hiccups there we can then address them appropriately.
Thanks!
Tom
