@Tom Saguto always preaches alignment stick put it here and then make sure you take your divot in front of it... I COMPLETELY AGREE.. but I believe there is a way better Visual Aid... So go to walmart and by the cheap 1 dollar can of white spray paint ( or whatever other visual color you want) When you go to the range.. Use the spray paint and spray a line in the grass (no golf course will care I promise, I have done it a private country club, No I am not rich, my friend is and got me on haha) now 2 options, both ways work amazing but some might prefer one way over the other... Method 1) This is what I do, put the practice balls directly on the white line of spray paint you just created, now when you swing the goal is when you take a divot, leave the the white spray paint line there ( I usually go long enough to put 5 or 6 balls down at one time... THIS IS INSTANT VISUAL FEED BACK... if the white line is gone, You have hit fat my friend, if just the very front is gone but the back is still there, That is cool and if all of the white line is there, thats GREAT AS WELL... Method 2) spray the same white line but instead of putting the balls on the white line put them directly behind the white line, Now the Idea is the opposite when you take a divot it should start where the white line is, ( some people might like looking at the white line to where to start ground contact as opposed to avoiding it, Potato Pototo, whatever works best for you) If your line is long enough to put 5 or 6 balls down.. you can clearly see if the divot started before the white line, If it did, you hit it FAT, if it starts at the white line or the middle of the white line, YOU HAVE THE CRISPY KFC DIVOT IN FRONT OF THE BALL...AGAIN Instant VISUAL FEEDBACK THOUGH. What do you think about this TOM

My thoughts are best conveyed in this short demonstration by Mike Bennett. By the way, if using paint instead of perhaps a chalk line or a spray powder, then my suggestion would be to get temporary marking paint.
