I use jumbo max xl grips and most places don’t use them on fitting clubs so wondering if there is a way to know I’m getting the right clubs for my setup?
@Ryen - Haven't heard from you in awhile. If you're still available can you tap into your Master Fitter background and offer any suggestions to @ehudpower?
so the problem becomes having duplicate shafts right with different group sizes. most fitters when they fit you and they see that your dispersion is great and it's just a little left. can understand that you need a bigger grip so if all things are perfect then you know we we size your hand and then we put you in the correct grip. but there are situations where like you might have a smaller hand and need a bigger grip. maybe you flip your wrist a lot or you spin your wrist a lot right? well in that case you would actually get a slightly bigger grip than what your hands would be fitted for. overall, selecting the right grip size can make a difference, but for fitting purposes it is just too difficult for club champion to have 370 iron shafts and then triple that for standard midsize and jumbo grips. I mean overall my hands are fit to a standard and I believe Tom's is too. but both Tom and I use bigger grips. I use a mid-size with a couple wraps on the bottom. I think Tom switched the jumbos cuz he likes the way that feels. it really is a fill thing, although you can get mechanically better by thicker grips.
if you go to a place like club champion where they're officially trained for a couple months and then have to be approved by the VP of the massive fitting program to prove they can fit everyone from the child to a PGA tour professional and everywhere in between and you'll be in really good hands. true spec is really good as well, but other places like PGA tour superstore and golf Galaxy don't train their fitters they do an online test and online video and that's it
yeah Tom I just haven't had the ability to play golf because of the winter man. it's been an all season for me so I'm about to start getting back into it now that it's starting to warm up consistently man and you'll start hearing a lot more from me haha
@ehudpower - You just received a very thorough response from a trained master club fitter. There's nothing I can add except to recommend following his advice. Do you have a Club Champion or True Spec within reach of your locale?
