So, I had my driver gripped with the Golf Pride CP2 Pro grip. It is an oversized grip. Felt really good. I decided today that I would try to hit a power fade with my driver. And I did on every hole but one. I wanted to make sure I could draw the ball if I needed. Anyway on that hole I hit a low draw on command. On the other holes I hit a nice "straight fade". The ball took off on my aim line and as it came down from peak height it fell to the right (fade). Never had to look for my ball today. I hit 12 of 14 fairways. Missed one to the right by five yards and one to the left by five yards. Distance was a little shorter than my normal draw, but that was due to getting 2 inches of rain last night. I didn't really change much from my normal draw swing. I still hit from the inside, but aimed left of center and held the release off a fraction of an instant to make sure the face was slightly open to the swing path. The oversize grip helped with that feeling. I felt like I could really pressure the back side of the shaft with my trigger finger and palm and it would not turn the clubhead closed.
I also tried to hit fades with my approach shots. First few were a little thin, but then I remembered that when hitting a fade, I should stand a little closer to the ball and make sure I stayed over the ball and didn't extend early. That said, I need to work on the mid irons a little more. I may regrip them with oversize grips. Being a drawer of the ball for so long it is really hard for me to aim left enough. As my mind still sees a draw. But, all in all, it was a good day. Now, if I could just putt...
Well done, @burkholder.ronald!! As you get more comfortable hitting that power fade you may find that you're also able to go after it a bit harder without having to worry about hitting it of the planet. It's a very reliable and controllable shape.
Now....go learn how to putt..... 😎
