I am only getting between 100 to 120 yards with a 7 iron. Is that a lot lower than it should be? Before the change my 7 iron was my 150 club. Using a garmin r10
Sunny and mid 50's today. A little cooler than I like, though I suppose that's around average for this time of year and it sure beats snow. Sorry. Check out the Indoor Training Program.
Well Tom there’s a good thing right now we’re all on quarantine so I got my Garage set up as a golf simulator right now so I’ll have my son video me today and put on V1 app
I have to keep telling myself that the end of chapter 2 is more about building the foundation rather than hitting the ball a mile. It’s hard to remind my self of this.
Brandon - I agree. Having a repeatable, consistent, swing is very important in golf. I am just happy with the 9:00 o’clock backswing where the ball goes the same distance for me as the old swing in full backswing. Too many things go wrong when doing the full loop of the circle.
Give it time, Brandon - those carry and total distance numbers will begin to creep upwards as you get more comfortable.
And yes - Litchfield Country Club in Pawleys Island is around 20 miles south of Myrtle. Plenty of great places to stay down here, by the way, with great beaches and less hustle & bustle. Or, if you prefer the high-rise beachfront condos and all the activity, then by all means Myrtle Beach has that and more.
So I’m going to be good and not even look at chapter 3. I’ll stay where I am for awhile. I asked my wife if she’s up to skipping destin beach this year and going to myrtle beach. I know your down the road. I’d have to bring her cousins husband who is the one who showed me my first video of you. Needless to say I got hooked. I enjoy how you bring comedy into your teaching.
If you're splitting balls in half, @Brandon Wall, then surely you can't be far from that 150 yd 7 iron..... And at this juncture 4 out of 5 crispy is darn good!
As for the ideal angle of attack, I'm sorry but I don't know the numerical answer to that. I prefer to read my quality of impact and ball flight as they provide reliable, real-time data without the need for micromanaging.
I think I’m going to park at 2.8 for awhile. I’ve destroyed 3 golf balls in the last few days. Split a chrome soft in half and 2vice pro plus look like cactus. I think I’m wanting more because I’m getting fit for new Taylormade stealth irons at the end of the month. My problem is I’m not patient at all and that stems from my time in the military. I always had to learn something at record pace and that carried on to my life now. 😤I can get about 4 out of 5 shots extra crispy contact, then that 1 it fatI may try the V1 or even post a video on the forums. One quick question what is the ideal AoA?
@Brandon Wall as Tom mentioned, I did experiment with playing rounds using the 2.8 drill exclusively. It was amazing. I went from shooting in the low 80s to mid 70s. My GHIN index went from12.x to a low of 6.5.
It’s 8.8 now because I just moved from Texas to Florida and have not been playing as much as I’m used to playing. So my short game and putting on unfamiliar Bermuda instead of Bent Grass greens has hurt my scoring. I did shoot 78 last Sunday and 77 yesterday using the 2.8 drill during the rounds.
I think you’ll find using this drill for shots during a round will help you.
@burkholder.ronald Excellent golfing my friend. I may try the 2.8 exclusively on the course. Spent about 3 weeks there practiced and moved on to other training. Didn't spend months there as recommended by Tom.
@Brandon Wall - Methinks you may be advancing too quickly and expecting too much too soon in the process. Remember, you are learning a completely new system here; it is not a series of tips and fixes or a crutch for masking old swing issues.
I believe I may have previously sent you some preliminary advice when you advised me of your having enrolled in the school (perhaps in response to a YouTube comment). If so, point #1 would have read something like this: "Regardless of a member's skill level, this swing necessitates a complete reboot for someone transitioning from a shift & lift swing (which is typically the case), and therefore it is imperative that one take sufficient time to ensure that the fundamental components are mastered. From the ground up there is nothing superfluous in the Stack & Tilt swing - in other words, everything with a purpose, and a purpose for everything. (For example, contrary to shift & lift where you may be taught to keep your trail foot perpendicular to the target line as a means of "creating resistance" in your trail side, in S&T we flare both feet out 10-20 degrees in order to facilitate a free flowing, inclined hip and shoulder turn.) I cannot emphasize this enough, as frustrations predominantly occur when students jump ahead in the curriculum without properly dedicating themselves to the foundational base upon which our consistently repeatable, powerful, low maintenance swing must be built." (Emphasis added) Follow the plan and that 7 iron will be back up to 150 and perhaps beyond sooner rather than later.
Many of your fellow members here have parked themselves on Drill 2.8 for several months, and they are even able to play quite the course well using that swing. After they advance on in the course they still keep 2.8 in their back pocket as a reliable "default swing" they can call upon if they ever start to leak oil in the middle of a round. That's where I'd like you to get to. In fact, if @burkholder.ronald is available, he might chime in with his experiment in which he used 2.8 - and only 2.8 - for five consecutive rounds and broke 80 each time.
Beyond this, if after giving sufficient time and proper work to the basic elements as mentioned above you find that you are still not progressing to your satisfaction, then you may wish to give some thought to the V1 Swing Video Analysis - an effective service that I highly recommend to everyone in the school. This enables me to put my eyes on your swing and offer some very specific observations and corrective action plans if applicable. I liken it to bringing your swing into the shop for a tune-up or minor repair. Scheduling one on a quarterly basis for preventive maintenance will do wonders for keeping things humming along nicely, and it's also a great tool for pinpointing and resolving any issues that arise. The process involves downloading the free V1 app and then submitting two videos to me through the app - one down-the-line (captured from your stance line, not the target line) and the other face-on. You'll find more information about the V1 Analysis halfway down this page on the Saguto.Golf site: https://saguto.golf/p/sagutogolf
You might also consider posting your swing videos in the Forum's Video Analysis Room. While I don't personally review these as it conflicts with my V1 service, you may be pleasantly surprised by the knowledge base and helpfulness of this great community!
Bet the weather is nice there. Snowing here 😩
Yes
Those swings on my video look bad but went about 130 carry. Speed has picked up today to around 76 from 65
Tom I submitted to videos of the hotel with a video I do have a lot of movement
My version is 100% fat-free yet oh so satisfying.
See I’m almost 30 yards shorter than my old swing and I have to stop myself from trying to kill the ball.
I have to keep telling myself that the end of chapter 2 is more about building the foundation rather than hitting the ball a mile. It’s hard to remind my self of this.
Varies with everyone. I hit the 7i 145-155.
These are some readings from today’s practice session in the garage.

I guess I obsess with golf. I always practice when I have free time. I.e when kids are at school.
