Been struggling with my distance since switching to stack and tilt. All of my irons are blending together it seems. PW is 120-125 carry, I'm ok with that. Problem is my 9 thru 7 seem to all be carrying between 125 and 135. I wont even try 6 and above at this point. I am compressing the ball with nice high ball flight, just lacking distance. My swing speed with all of the above clubs is in mid 60's which seems very low for me.
I've been working hard on inside out swing which has resulted in more draws and very few slices. Have a grid setup, noodle to swing under etc. Its getting very frustrating to me because I was always a long hitter and its very embarrassing going to the course with my friends ( ridiculing is their specialty). Any specific videos one would recommend? I understand the concepts, just not executing correctly.
“Simplest Golf Swing Ever” Part III Trail arm impact. Load and explode. 5 vids. Completely changed my swing.
Sent my videos in yesterday. They are ugly! Joshua, punching the pall and hitting down are not my issue. If anything I'm hitting at too steep an angle. My ball flights are very high. I have been working on using right hand more for past few months.I I appreciate the tips and your reply! Thank you
The idea isn’t necessarily to keep the wedge. The loft will take care of itself. You have to shaft lean an inhuman amount to fully deloft the club and swing through. That said, I’ll use one of Tom’s most powerful images. If I handed you a hammer and told you to hit a nail, would you back hand the hammer in with your front hand? Or would you put the hammer in your “trail” or hand away from the wall and hit it going with a forehanded stroke? You get way more power swinging the club with your trail hand and “punching” at the ground than you would swinging with everything you have in your lead hand. You’d have no momentum from rotating. One of the best drills on SAGUTO.GOLF is trail hand halfway up and punching at the ground with tour club hitting these little chip shots. It trains your brain to hit down on the ball, sending it in the air and not trying to draw power from your front arm which will cause miss-hits and not swinging down but trying to scoop the ball in the air.
@jim - How long have you been working at your transition to S&T? It seems to me that you are focusing heavily on the swing mechanics and positions, which is an absolutely necessary part of the process until they become ingrained. Once the overall motion is committed to muscle memory and you are able trust it, you can then go out there and confidently "let it go". That's where your speed and distance will kick in.
Also, once you are comfortable with the swing and your ball striking is consistently crispy with a repeatable shot shape, you may wish to dive into the Power + Distance course to learn about incorporating the various power accumulators.
Beyond that, I wholeheartedly agree with @danny regarding video. Use this tool often as the camera doesn't lie. As for the V1 Swing Video Analysis that Danny mentioned, it is an effective and inexpensive service that I highly recommend to everyone in the school. I liken it to bringing your swing into the shop for a tune-up or minor repair. Scheduling one on a quarterly basis for preventive maintenance will do wonders for keeping things humming along nicely, and it's also a great tool for pinpointing and resolving any issues that arise. The process involves downloading the free V1 app and then submitting two videos to me through the app - one down-the-line (captured from your stance line, not the target line) and the other face-on. You'll find more information about the V1 Analysis halfway down this page on the Saguto.Golf site.
No worries. You can handle this temporary trash talking from those "friends" of yours, especially knowing that you'll soon be the subject of their envy...😎
I would suggest you video your swing and post it. If your clubs are not giving you different distances, my best guess, based on absolutely nothing credible, is that you're casting and spending all your power before the clubhead gets to the ball.
I’m at a loss, and not in a ridiculing way…I got 30-40 yards LONGER switching to S&T.
If I stop to think about the power source, it’s your trail hand. Removing power from your left and swinging the hammer with your right.
