Liking all the different post from fellow senior golfers. And noticing the different ways here that people tailor the site to fit their game.
As I started this journey before this years season, I look back and am in unbelief sometimes of the progress and really what the components of the progress where.
I do believe breaking it down and starting from scratch was key. Not an easy thing after years of muscle memory and ingrained habits. And those of us in the later season in life, all the wear and tear and limitations that come with age, but they don't have to be a detriment. Actually experience and and self evaluation applied to this game was a huge part of the improvement for me through this venue. It's funny looking back how I think golf might be the hardest game to realize how much this is needed in the everyday players game(Pros live and breath this).
But after imparting what I been learning this season with other "regular" golfers. It has been an eye opener to how many don't self evaluate and defiantly see no reason to change things! Hmmm, I pondered why this was and have no answer. It seems like definition of insanity for sure. But one thing I did try to get across to my brother and nephew that came out to visit was if you are not going to put any time or work in. And you just going to hit the range once in a while with no real goal and just show up at course and no warm ups or putting and chipping practice. At least have the mindset to go out and just enjoy the round and day. And any good shots or pars and good things that happen enjoy but to expect more is crazy.
Sorry for the rabbit trail. So as I said the self evaluation part coupled with this forum and Toms School have been a stellar leap for me. Due to slight physical problems did not finish finals, but any other year I would have been devastated. This year learning what I have, I am looking forward to an even better coming season. Dealing with shoulder issues but this swing system and the components are a big boon to me.
Through the feedback from Arccos have revamped my bag somewhat. Since feedback has shown my 3 iron crossover statistically is same distance as 5 wood and am more versatile with iron, 5 wood is out of the bag. Along with 3 wood which is being replaced by 2 iron crossover. Both these clubs clubs I can hit like woods from tee and fairway but irons have been a game changer out of the rough ( I'm sure there is a confidence factor in there also). But decided not going to fight with what seems to work and go to my strengths and get rid of my weaknesses. I now have room for another club since 3 was there already. Added a 54 degree Cleveland CBX Zipcore wedge (after hitting 5 different wedges in the booth and evaluating feedback)Cleveland I was the most accurate with and had the highest spin rate. This will help me be more accurate in the scoring zone and fill in the gap between my ULT wedge and 58 degree lob wedge. And having a true sand wedge will help even though greenside bunkers have been a strong point for me.
Heading out again today for my 2nd round since having to deal with what is probably going to be an ongoing part of physical aspect of my game(pain wise). Prep and post routine and physical therapy and "Sports Medicine" will be part of regimen.
Still enjoying the game, but have to wonder if I would have encounter all of the issues this year without the path I am on now if I would have been frustrated beyond the breaking point.
My take on how important feedback and paying attention to it and acting on it is important to improving your game.
Thanks all.
@Steven - no doubt about it, you have been an inspiration to me and others in the Forum. You are a hard worker and good Golfer.
You've made fabulous progress this year, Steven, and despite the injury that sidelined you for the season-ending championship, you have transformed yourself into a formidable competitive player. There's a lot to be said for what you have accomplished.
Have fun out there today!!
