Hey Tom & Saguto golfers,
John here from Ireland.
I had a bad accident years back and ended up with a Fused right Wrist, I am right handed.
I always thought I would never play golf due to this, but I enrolled in the course and followed the instructions, and I am now starting to hit some nice KFC shots now and again so there is some hope.
Just wondering what your thoughts are on how to swing with a fused right wrist?
Ps squash was my main sport and I was told I would never play again but with persistence I did, and got back up to National standard..I am approaching golf with the same mindset and see how it goes.
Thanks Tom, keep up the good work,.
Best regards,
John
I had a complete right wrist fusion 20 yrs ago. Joined a league 10 yrs later and have learned to play better than before the surgery. (Which was not too good i.e.24 handicap) I am about an 18 now... Just keep at it and practice a lot. I can now do that as I retired 4 yrs ago and the practice does wonders.
Really appreciate all the replies, and if others have some perspectives and advice it would be great! Some great advice here to start experimenting, thanks again
Rotating the wrist is something you should avoid in a golfswing.
Perhaps you can try compensate the bending of the right wrist by changing the grip, in a way that the grip of the right hand is more in your upper fingers.
I guess you can move your fingers backwards, so that your fingers simulate a wristbending. Don't know if this can help, to do the flying wedge drill.
My next idea is a compensation in straightening your left leg a little bit earlier.
We have a lot of good golfers in the forum, what compensation would they do ?
Use your fantasy.
Hey @Tom Saguto thanks for reply. Very little right wrist bending movement, but I can rotate it no problem. Does that make sense? I have managed to hit a few crispy shots recently, so I think I can make it work hopefully... Ball Distance and height seem to be an issue even though I would consider myself athletic, 120 yard carry with 7 iron is my average.
John, I can’t help with the fused wrist but I can say you have a persevering attitude and that is all that matters.
