Hi all!
As September hits us in the UK, it generally means the end of the season with the nights getting darker earlier and competitions winding down.
Just wondering if anyone reached their goals for 2021, what are their goals for 2022 and what you plan to work on in the off season?
For me, I didn't really have a goal set for 2021. All I was focussed on was working on the swing changes which I'm happy with at the moment. I did shoot a 6 over par 76 and won a competition at my old club which were bonuses!
My goal for the rest of 2021 is to try to score 36 (3 over par) at my local course.
My goal for 2022 is to get my handicap to my previous lowest of 5.5. I'm not targeting any specific competitions as I may re-join my old club now hopefully the worst of the pandemic is behind us.
My focus on the off season is to increase my clubhead speed. I'm currently around 88-90mph with my driver so would like to add around 5mph. Just wondering if anyone has used the Superspeed system and if so, what were the results like? Or does anyone have any other suggestions on how I can increase this?
Looking forward to hearing all your golfing stories and thoughts
Goal for ‘22 1. Sub 3 handicap (finished as 5 last year but did get down to a 3 for a short stretch). 2. Shoot a 69 on a legit par 72 course. 3. Get to average 14-15gir’s 4. Average 3+ birdies
For me the key my main goal in 2021 was consistency of strike and improving my knowledge of S&T because from first lesson I had with an instructor it changed how I viewed the golf swing. I’ve gone to a lot of teachers and read loads of traditional golf swing books trying to gain knowledge to improve and I wasn’t getting better….19 HC for a few years…. My ball striking now as a result of help from Tom’s school, the book and others is light years better than it used to be in 2020. I’m currently a 10.9 HC on WHS having joined a new club which is a tougher course than previously, so my goal is to be single figures by the end of next year and I’m confident I can be given progress made so far and increase in knowledge Regarding Superspeed….I know mates who have used them and like them BUT key is consistency of training. They start, stop then start again. I think, like anything, to see real benefits you have to train body regularly. I’m pretty sure regular flexibility work and weights/body weight exercises would do same thing as them tbh Enjoying reading these comments from others Thanks Tim
Great post @Ian "Twiggy" Jones, and some excellent replies from @Joshua Flynn and @danny so far! Based on that I think we can all say well done in '21, gentlemen!
I've just pinned this in the hope of encouraging more activity in this thread.
@danny @Joshua Flynn awesome stuff!
I hope others who are struggling making a change or doubting the school can see that they will get there eventually with hard work, determination, patience and time.
My initial goal was to give this system a year and see if I could get to an enjoyable level of play. I've most certainly reached that goal! When I came here I SUH...HUUCKED at golf. Multiple 20 yard strikes in row, huge slices, slamming the club into the ground a foot behind the ball, if there was a hazard to clear on a tee box, even 100 yard carry, I'd be in the hazard! Golf was a miserable experience and I spent more time trying to figure out why I even bother wasting my valuable time making myself so completely miserable!
Now, I'm a bit addicted, my ball striking is in whole different spectrum! I'm still not a very good golfer but I dare say, I am now a golfer! I actually find myself sneaking out to play 9 with enthusiasm. Even my terrible rounds are WAY better than my previous good rounds.
I guess my goal for the next year is to continue improving my swing and to stop coming over the top. This stupid little move is really difficult to exorcise! I believe that is the sole reason of my inconsistency as even my over the top move varies as I battle it. So If I can get that beaten down, I'd like to set a goal of actually getting a real handicap score and move from playing all practice rounds to more of a competitive, structured play... if that makes any sense. Anyway, I really believe this system works and Tom's method of conveying the information necessary to achieve a real golf swing is an efficient cost effective way to become a real ball striker!
Great post. My goal this year was to fix my swing since I was having debilitating rhomboid pain. Saguto fixed that. Once that was fixed I wanted to have the goal of whenever I pulled any club out of my bag I could hit it proper. Not worried too much about aim or distance but just knowing when I step over a ball with any club I know HOW to hit it. Check that off. Then came figuring out my yardages. Check. Once that came about I set to improve my yardage for better carry distance. Which happened. Added 10 yards to my irons and almost 20 to my driver. Then I wanted to shore up my putting to get to 36 or less putts per each round of 18. That was also accomplished with Saguto and his putting tips. I wanted to break 90 for the first time. I’ve been doing that easily now. Next I will be tracking my scores properly with an app and establishing an actual handicap, then in turn lowering it. This was the most successful, most fulfilling, most rewarding, most fun and most confidence inspiring years I’ve ever had playing golf and I can’t wait to see what comes next. Cheers
