Hello, as long as I do the half swings I can really compress the ball and hit it very straight. My question as soon as I try and hit it with a more normal swing I get no compression and start to lose accuracy. Is this normal or is there something I should be doing differently. Thank you.

For me, I have to watch my weight distribution on full swings because my brain is very well trained (old swing) to shift my weight to the right despite starting 60/40. For me, I have to feel VERY tilted towards the target at the top to ensure I haven't moved to my right side on the way back. The worst-case scenario for me is to nearly straighten the right leg at address. Alternately, and I believe Tom covered this in one of the Hogan videos, I make sure my butt moves left, or towards the target on the backswing. That keeps my weight on my left side without thinking.
@Brian Dwyer - It's absolutely normal!!
It is so important to embrace the swing change process and set realistic expectations along the way, otherwise frustration is certain to occur. The “ghosts of swings past” do not die easily, and if you are transitioning from a swing method that involved shifting weight into your trail side and/or lifting the club with your hands, those demons are going to take some time to exorcise! Be patient, work through the lessons sequentially and without getting ahead of yourself, and know that it’s going to take time for your swing to perform consistently and hold up under the pressure of actual play.
If you spend enough time here in the forum you'll see that I make the following comment rather liberally, and that's because it really works wonders!:
"One great thing about this swing is that you can still achieve solid ball striking even at the most basic levels. This is why I oftentimes will refer students back to Chapter 2 of the Golf Swing Simplified course when they experience a hiccup or perceived setback. That chapter reinforces the body motions and the weight-forward component, and it culminates with what I call "The Best Golf Swing Practice Drill of All Time". Work yourself sequentially and gradually through the chapter, and then park yourself on that drill in Lesson 2.8. Learn it. Practice it. Master it. You can even use the somewhat abbreviated swing it provides on the course and play quite well with it! Once you've got that down you will be well prepared to move forward in the curriculum and well on your way towards taking ownership of YOUR swing!"
So, there's a suggested game plan for you, Brian. And once you've locked down 2.8, keep it in your back pocket so you can summon it up as a refresher on the range or even deploy it mid-round if you start leaking oil on the course.
Keep up the great work - you're doing fine!!
