OMG I’M ABSOLUTELY BESIDE MYSELF RIGHT NOW!!! I was struggling a bit this past weekend. I knew I was getting close to something but it wasn’t 100% clicking. I rewatched Tom’s last YouTube video meditated on it a bit and went out in the back yard. 9 iron “WHAMO!”, 8 iron “WHAMO!”, okay let’s try a 5 iron “WHAMO!” Like four in a row, right on the same spot. CAN THIS BE REAL? I no joke quit right in the middle of practice to post this. I’m still in complete disbelief. 🏌️♂️🤩
If you’re stuck in an out to in swing path, this could be your ticket out. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-b04O2Qw97M
@Buford T Ogletree do you find if the club is moving on the correct path that you don’t have to think about much else ? Eg getting rid of over the top makes the release happen etc etc ?
WHAMO indeed, @Buford T Ogletree!!! For all the "heat" I've taken from folks in response to this video saying, "I thought you told us you don't have to think about dropping the club in the slot with this swing...", this is what it's all about! The necessary shallowing motion does not come naturally to the vast majority of players, including the best in the world who are oftentimes seen rehearsing such a move on the range or prior to hitting a shot - even in the heat of competition!
In the Fixing Common Swing Problems section of the online school there are several lessons/drills related to Steep or Over-the-Top downswings. I refer to this as "Downswing Problem #1" with good reason. Yes - IF this swing is properly executed your downswing path will mimic the backswing and be appropriately shallowed, but minus the necessary downswing moves to keep the path intact the overwhelming amateur tendency is towards steepness. The conscious act of shallowing the shaft builds in the correct motions and feels so that ultimately the downswing will perform as designed on autopilot. A bit of reverse engineering in order to force a required action and feel never hurt anyone, and in this case it's going to help plenty.
Nicely done, BTO. Thanks for interrupting your session to share this!!!
Looking at it on V1, I can see my shoulder needs to go down a bit more and my club head is getting ahead of my hands just a wee bit too soon before impact, but I’ve never been this happy with my swing.
