I joined Saguto a couple of weeks ago as I was having a problem trying to find my swing using the covenetional method. I had been following Tom (fresh approach) for a little while and liked his style.
Then though practising some of the moves I was hitting the ball better, in fact a lot better but would not put the weight on the lead side at address as in my mind this is not proper golf. Things improved but still hitting slightly behind not bad just a bit clumpy. Then thought if I put my weight forward it might help and guess what it did with a bang. I then (thanks to Tom) learned how to rotate my hip putting weight onto the front side and now it all makes perfect sense. The interesting part is when I practise every day I firstly I need to think/rotate the hip onto the lead side otherwise it still wants to sway back to the trail side. This new rotation helps me crunch the driver big time where in the past always hit and miss.
My S&T experience has been created in my garden net as we've been in lockdown here for 3 months in England so first golf ever is Monday morning with the new swing if its anything like what I see in the net it should be interesting.
For sure I have a lot of Ghosts, but can't wait to pound them into submission with my new drive! Being a Lefty serial slicer we have some lovely houses close to the fairway on the 3rd which I must have been there biggest concern to them when I send off a bad one..... hopefully something of the past, however will go straight to the drill (thanks Tom) just incase.
@sales - I sure hope you have a kinder, gentler opening day than what @Ian "Twiggy" Jones experienced....😎
Yes, for anyone (actually, just about everyone) who is transitioning from "shift & lift" to Stack & Tilt, that weight-forward component is really a difficult one to come to terms with, because at least early on in the process what we "feel" to be forward is nowhere close to "real" since we're so accustomed to transferring all that pressure into the trail side. It can take a while, and some bit of shiftiness will want to creep back in and throw things out of kilter on occasion, but just having awareness of this will help you immensely in combating it.
Anyway, because of this all-too-common tendency I recently added this 90% Weight Forward Drill, and it has done wonders for a lot of golfers here who have been fighting this.
So I wish you much enjoyment and good playing as you finally make your way onto the course, and in the event you ever again experience any shifting issues due to those stubborn "ghosts of swings past", I encourage you to work through that drill and beat them into submission!
Cheers!
Tom
Good luck for Monday! Mother Nature I think is going to be on your side unlike when here in Wales we re-opened........40mph winds and rain! 😂
My story is somewhat like yours. I've been struggling with the hips too. Had a V1 with Tom which has helped though. I think this video https://saguto.golf/courses/1234158/lectures/27563738 opened my eyes somewhat to where I'm falling short as I'm struggling on the lateral hip movement. This drill helps making the downswing easier with the hips almost pre-set. Been working on the movement last few days indoors and hoping to take it to the course over the weekend.
