Looking for some guidance. I had knee surgery with my lead knee a few years ago and basically the move forward really hurts my knee.
i come from a place of making a lateral shirt to the right and a bigger lateral shift to the left. I feel like that move really injured my knee over the past year…and there was one stretch where a buddy and I played golf for 50 straight days. My knee has never recovered.
Fast forward, I decided s&t was the answer to be easier on my knee, but struggle with one part of knee getting out past the lead ankle. That move hurts.
@Tom Saguto since I am getting ready for a golf trip and we are going to play 7 days in a row and likely more than one round a day…wondering bout modifications I could make to take pressure of front knee.
i believe that I can cheat the weight forward, say 70/30…and basically cheat the ball back a ball back of center. in essence this leads to playing a stance that is open to swing path, but should allow me to stay super centered and always hit a push draw.
i believe I should be able to line up to left side of fairway/green with a natural swing path to the right side…
Do you have any concerns with this approach?
Yep. I was playing with it last night. I can see value in it for sure. Thumbs up.
@Tom Saguto I can barely find any references ro Elk using S&T. It’s kind of surprising because his entire secret in the dirt series gets super in depth…he was a golf machine guy and so he gets into all sorts of crazy conversations. The worst is when he gets with Mayes and Ayres. “The spiral” discussions are just obnoxious.
Ah ok. I don't have any knee issues but I am a little top heavy...Hopefully changing very soon.
I don't flex my knee all that much myself because I have issues getting that push that you are talking about as well. I just maintain my knee flex in the front the entire swing. Obviously I will straighten out the trail knee to get the hips tilted and turned properly.
I say all that to say if you just use your front leg as a post there shouldn't be an issue as long as weight doesn't move back. The only thing I can see this affecting is that your backswing might be a tad bit shorter.
I do understand your thinking of opening up a bit so you don't have to "clear" the front hip, but if you don't flex it as much you should be able to "push" with it a bit. I agree with putting a bit more weight forward.
Hopefully Tom will have some insight.
@Russell Hogue, PhD - Are you able to have any knee flex at address?
