Since adopting the stack and tilt swing I find that my 6i, 7i and 8i all carry the same distance (around 135-140 yards). Is this a common issue when starting the change to stack and tilt? I'm only about 35% through the simplified swing program at the moment.
Thanks
Allan.
Thank you Ronald, I will check out the long iron lessons. I've sort of kept to the order given in the online school to try not get ahead of my self. I have videoed myself and I'm not having enough extension in my back swing which is lowering my head right. I'm tilting and turning only and most probably trapping myself without extension. Playing 9 holes after work today so will keep extension while tilting my swing thought for this round.
@allanemily5 this is not the case with me. At least not when comparing equally crispy strikes with each iron. I personally struggle with the 5-7 irons compared to the short irons. But when I do hit the longer irons correctly I get an appropriate distance gap with them.
So, my advice is to make sure you are executing the swing correctly. I find I have two errors with the longer irons. I lose the flying wedge prior to impact or I come down too steeply and smother hook it. The loss of the flying wedge is, I think, caused my the additional length of the longer iron. It is harder for me to hold that flexed trail wrist due the inertia of the club head being farther away from the wrist. The result is a functional flip and weak distance. The smother hook, I think, is a result of having the ball to far back in my stance where it is easier to strike the ball before I lose the flying wedge.
I recommend reviewing Tom’s lessons in long irons and hybrids.
Good luck.
