Have very low tension in your arms. This will let you release into the ball/ground . This is how the pros get those sweet divots. It also helps if the turf is nice. Golf is way easier on good grass. The cheaper the course, the harder the course. Hard pan is a hazard shot.
@timmos1 - Everything in the curriculum is designed to lead you towards consistently crispy ballstriking bliss. A nice bacon strip divot taken after the ball with your irons is an effect of a properly executed, centered swing with good low point control, and not a cause in and of itself. A great lesson to get you to this type of impact condition is the 90% Weight Forward/Arms Straight Drill. There's also this impact video from the YT channel that @ihmpadre just referred to in a recent comment.
Beyond these lessons there's the Impact Snap training aid that I can provide a little more info about if interested.
@timmos1 the arms straight drill, Tom Saguto's signature drill, helps with a lot of swing faults along with the correct set up. Anytime, I run into a swing issue, even lack of divots, I check my set up and would do the drill. Sometimes while behind slow play golfers waiting for fairway to clear, the drill is in action with 3 balls. It makes a big difference. Gets ya back into the groove. I've yet to try it with driver. Anything different I need to do this drill with driver, Tom?
@johnpfistnerjr Perhaps just a bit more forward with the ball position when doing the drill with the driver so your not hitting it with as much of a descending blow. Also, even in this abbreviated swing the length of the driver shaft should naturally have you taking it back on a shallower plane than a short or mid iron. Allow it to do so.
