Guys.. let me just start by saying I've been pretty frustrated the last few weeks since I started learning this swing. I'm not just new to this swing but new to golf entirely.. so this has definitely been a process. However, you might think I have an advantage since I don't have a whole lot of bad habits to break.
I have been practicing every day consistently, and a lot of times I take my lunch break at work to come home and hit 20-30 balls. Well.. on today's lunchbreak right towards the last few shots I had a breakthrough. I discovered the amazing power that get's added to your swing effortlessly with a proper trail forearm and wrist hinge. And not just power, but somehow it just puts the club on the proper path and just works out a lot of problems in the swing. EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT performing the rest of the downswing perfectly (which you will see in the video that I need a lot of improvement with that) it makes up for so many issues despite that...
You can see me in the first part of the video ensuring a proper grip, and then getting the feel of the proper trail forearm and wrist hinge. What prompted me to correct this was I noticed my left wrist was not flat, and then it clicked in my head that it's because I don't have proper trail forearm and wrist hinge.. it was causing my left wrist to cup I think. Which was leading to all sorts of ball striking issues and lack of power even if I did manage to get the club face square. also almost all my shots would go right.
I absolutely sent this ball and I barely swung. I did it multiple times over too, it was not a fluke.
Again.. you will notice that I don't get a good backwards k and my back foot looks like it wants to rotate on to the toe way to early.. etc. But because I got this sweet, sweet trail forearm right I know I was hitting these balls straight like 150+ yards with minimal effort.
I might just need to go get myself a Krispy KFC spicy chicken sandwich after this one....
also sorry for the grungy tank.. I just took my work shirt off quickly so I could practice.
@Tom Saguto I just realized you were linking me to one of your courses. Facepalm. Thanks!
Are you pointing me toward a video or something? I tried looking up what you put here and I didn't find a video with that title.
Thanks!
“Simplest Golf Swing Ever” Part III - Train Impact. Load and Explode drill. By far and away not talked about enough in traditional golf instruction and I feel like this is the factor that Tom talks about when he mentions average gold score among amateurs being so high and not having fun. This is how you make a divot like the pros. This is how you get distance. This is how you conquer golf course lengths. Of course there are other elements to the swing, but hitting the ground in the same spot every time (low point control) is what the pros can do. Which is what makes golf because when you put a club in your hands you want to trust that it’s going to do what you ask it to do.
Trail arm. Trail arm. Trail arm. Great stuff.
