Hello all,
I have been heavily revisiting drill 2.8 which indeed is the best drill of all time (I’m even considering playing with that swing for a while as I’m hitting further than full swing and much better consistency).
One thing I’m struggling with is that to have good contact I really need the swing thought of the club pointing down at the ground on the follow through, and I am not able to complete the full follow through with rehinging of the wrists on a normal swing. I feel like my arms are blocked at the 3/4 finish position and they mechanically cannot get past that to a « across the body, rehinged wrists position. Also, as soon as I try having a fuller follow through (more than 3/4, with cluB pointing down at the ground), my impact suffers and I’ll start hitting thin shots etc.
Any tips on moving past the 2.8 drill with a fuller follow through ?
Thank you!
Martin
Hello, I posted my swing video here when not doing drill 2.8. Would really appreciate feedback! I think my main problem is having a good swing thought to not come from the inside / bump the hips to hit at the ball.
Thanks a lot
Martin
Wow if Ronald shot several rounds in the 70s with that drill I'm DEFINITELY keeping it while I improve!!
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll post my videos in that section :) and also plan to go for a 2nd V1 analysis once I've worked through this!
@Martin Detournay,
What @Ronald Burkholder - our resident "Mr. Modest" - didn't tell you is that he shot five consecutive rounds in the 70's using the 2.8 swing exclusively. It is highly playable and will ultimately have you in a very good place when you're ready to add those few remaining pieces.
When you get to posting your swing videos as @Nocona Colt Abernathy suggested, please do so in the Forum's Video Analysis Room. While I don't personally review these as it conflicts with my V1 service, you will likely be pleasantly surprised by the knowledge base and helpfulness of this great community!
As for the V1 Analysis, this is an extremely valuable service that I highly recommend to everyone in the school. I liken it to bringing your swing into the shop for a tune-up or minor repair. Scheduling one on a quarterly basis for preventive maintenance will do wonders for keeping things humming along nicely, and it's also a great tool for pinpointing and resolving any issues that arise. The process involves downloading the free V1 app and then submitting two videos to me through the app - one down-the-line (captured from your stance line, not the target line) and the other face-on. You'll find more information about the V1 Analysis halfway down this page on the Saguto.Golf site.

@Ronald Burkholder That’s a good question, which I also wonder myself 🤔 I think short term I’ll definitely play better scores with the 2.8 swing, just wondering if it might hold off progress over the long term. For example, looking a bit ahead at the ball flight section, I see Tom saying that rehinging the club creates higher ball flight while keeping the wedge will have lower flight. In any case thank you for the suggestion, I will try that out at the next range session this weekend.
@Nocona Colt Abernathy Thank you very much for the suggestion! I’ll film myself at the next range session this week and report back :-)
Thanks very much for the help already!

@Martin Detournay - Maybe you could post a video of your 2.8 swing and a full swing?
If you are having better results using the 2.8 drill, why do you want to achieve the rehinge at the end of the follow through?
That said, I think if you ensure your lead arm comes off your chest and your trail shoulder goes under your chin while tucking your butt you will get to the position you are seeking.
