I hit 200 balls or so today ( 2 buckets) and will hit another 200 tomorrow.
When I started hitting I was not getting much crispy contact. I was really trying to keep that weight forward, head in one place and get the lead arm straight and get the shoulder down. I hit about 50 balls or so with a few skullies and some divots that make greenskeepers cry but I was determined to find crispyland again. Even though I had several fat shots and ripping up the grass. I did not have any big chunkers. I think I grabbed my 8 iron, set up, and hit the first bonified crispy straight ball of the day. And in that moment I realized that I was not only NOT keeping that lead arm straight like I did with that shot but I was bending down to cheat the shoulder down there and stayed there when I came down to the ball. In essence, I got shorter when I swung from my setup. (if that makes any sense) maybe leaning forward is a better way to say it.
So I stayed concentrated on that and even though the crispy consistency may have been hit and miss I realized that the lack of the 3rd ingredient,"extension" was most likely hurting me for the last few weeks. I did everything to keep my height the same and extend after the shot and I did better. Keeping that head right where it was and keeping that darn weight forward.
So I really stayed focused on that and started to be pleased that I may have been able to self analyze my issue. I even saved the last 20 balls to 2.8 and it was a stellar performance by the PW and 9 iron. I can say that my PW with a swing from 8:00 to 4:00 is right at 50 Yds. and the 9 iron at 9:00 to 3:00 is 100 Yds. Who knew? The Snowbirds are starting to leave and the Championship courses will become more reasonable price-wise to play.
feeling good about the progress and now it's time to work on consistency.
Well done, @Tom Holt!! The ability to self-diagnose and take the appropriate corrective action(s) is a key component in the process of taking ownership of your swing!!
(And nice job finishing up your session with 2.8!)
