I am so happy with progress this year, but living in Canada, I need to accept the inevitable winter approaching.. and up to 6 months away from a course.
This last 12 months we broke 100, 90 and 85! We had back to back birdies and the swing has come a long way.. still a long way to go but I think my goals for next year will be hit my first Eagle and Break 80! (Plus play as many courses as possible haha)
What are your golfing goals?
Thank to @Tom Saguto for the inspiration and the motivation as well as Saguto.golf without which, there is no way I would have got this far, this quick!
For me its bringing my hcp below 5. I have been around 8-10 this year with my lowest score being 76. I would love to consistently shoot in the 70s and have my "bad days" be in the low 80s :) I just picked up golf again this year (played in high school and maybe once or twice a year after that.) This will be the first winter I am going to continue to work on my golf swing so I am hoping that by next year I will be able to reach my goal! But really at the end of the day I don't care about my score/hcp as much as I care about being able to hit good crispy golf shots consistently.
@Bazza Clarke Great year!
I was just about to post asking everyone how their year went and their assessment of it compared to their expectations. I will just piggy back on yours here.
I set high goals and accomplished more than I could have hoped for.
Upsides:
Made back my entry fee plus some profit.
Handicap came down 2 full points overall but year to year thanks to Arccos tracking dropped 5 full points this year compared to last year.
New driver although only hand 3 rounds with it due to shoulder problem was awesome addition. Stats are longer drives and tighter dispersal.
Short game and putting improved nicely.
Even though bumped into 1st flight for the last 2 weeks and finals, finished with cash out second week in the money.
Moving to back tees not as big of hindrance as thought it would be. Maybe even improved focus and confidence, (still belong on middle tees in my opinion).
Downsides:
Would like to have had more practice time, but probably still had more practice and devotion to game than I have had since high school team days.
Shoulder issue in last week of season and finals which caused me to withdraw from 2nd round of finals.
Final Notes:
Overall am totally happy with progress. And my confidence and ability off the tee has been big since new driver. Looking to get some more rounds in as Colorado can be accommodating in the winter for golf.
Only been 11 days since had to withdraw but miss swinging the clubs. Improving shoulder somewhat, but 5 days into 10 days of meds, outlook questionable. Physical therapy Thursday the 29th. But after 65 years in this body and knowing it, believe shoulder injection more likely. Most likely will do both since only had bad shoulder done once in 19 years and that was 11 years ago. Been handling the slight pain and managing it, figured might be smart to do both. We will see but believe that is the course(pun intended) I am on.
Looking forward to hearing more reports.
What a tremendous first year with this great game, @Bazza Clarke, and with a long winter interrupting it as well!! Hopefully the weather holds up for you to get at least a few more rounds in before you go into hibernation. The way your swing is looking breaking 80 is a given next season! Just continue to work on sharpening that short game and it will happen sooner (and with consistency).
Thanks for keeping us updated - and entertained - by your progress this summer!!
@Bazza Clarke for now, break 90, and perfect my Short Game. Medical interruptions have delayed progress. My other goal is finding a Golfing Buddy. My last one became a workaholic from a job advancement.
