I have a set of Taylormade clubs. driver
3 wood
4 iron hybrid
5 iron hybrid
6 iron
7 iron
8 iron
9 iron
PW A club
Spider putter
I hit all the clubs well and I feel I am better than what people usually hit. I use an 8-iron as my 150-yard club but I have hit the 9 iron there too, although that is a range condition, not course condition. I use the A wedge for everything inside 50- 80 including the sand unless it's a bump and run condition. I will know more when I start playing the courses. I may be starting on the par 3's out here before I jump to the big boys which may give me a better indication of how well I am actually hitting these clubs.
What other club(s) should I stick in my bag? I don't think it matters what brand. I carry 11 clubs. I have room for 3 more.
I used to carry a 56* but I could never hit it well but now that I am playing a different game with TS as my Guru I bet I can smack it now!
@Tom Holt - I fully concur with @burkholder.ronald's recommendations!
@Tom Holt here are my recommendations. If there is more than a 10-15 yard gap between your 3W and 4hybrid a 5W might be helpful.
Looks like you could add a 56* Sand Wedge and a 60* Lob Wedge to complete your set. Depending on the loft of your existing wedges you may have to adjust my recommendation slightly. You want to have about 4* change of loft in the wedges. That should give you about a 10 yard distance between your full wedge shots. This would eliminate the need to hit that A wedge a 30 yard difference in distance.
I also recommend charting your wedge distances at various swing lengths. Using the clock system chart how far each wedge goes. This will help you pick the right wedge and the right amount of swing to hit chips and pitches. Takes a lot of guesswork out of executing the short game shots.
Good Luck!
