Greetings,
Anybody that follows my sharing here knows I have struggled of late. @Tom Saguto recommended a few books, one of which I got on Audible, "Play Your Best Golf Now". Which deals with the space between our ears 😛!
Well that turned out to be a big eye opener for me in the swing and my approach to what we do here. Certainly in my season of life, 65 & 1/2 with metal junkyard in right shoulder. I again had to remember that we are not all robots and must tailor the things talked about and learned here, MUST be incorperated to our unique swing. I can't get as much tilt in my swing because of the certain restrictions from shoulder. But knowing that has been a boon.
So the funk I was in the past weeks is continuing to trend in the right direction and as I have stated in a different post (Lag Shot Training), it is tempo that is major key for me. Yesterday played 1st round (actually 2nd round, since had a bye in 1st round) of Senior Match Play ( 20 total players). I posted that last week in regular Match Play (has 38 total players) had a come from behind win @ 3&1 finish.
Yesterday was another confidence builder and really beleive if I hadn't started to incorperate principles from "Play Your Best Golf Now" would have been a different outcome. We were pretty evenly matched, I got 1 stroke on the #1 handicapped hole. Again was down early on by 2 but battled back, yet still went into back 9 down 2 holes. But the different mind set had me focused on the comeback. Was down by 2 with 7 to play. Played the next 5 holes @ 2 over and that in the middle of that run brought it to even with 3 holes left. Final hole a Par 5, hit a nice drive, layed up in front of ditch and then hit a 5 iron into a right greenside bunker. Missed the par save after a decent out and bogeyed the hole, but opponent doubled. This is where I believe things in the brain come into play. He was struggle putting and when I was on the come back trail I drained a couple of long putts and was just missing some long putts earlier in the round so was on putting for sure. And it seemed that he struggled more as I started draining a few to come back and really he really had a hard time with putts that should have been made. I mechion this because I was in the funk with that also in the long game when I was struggling and it compounds itself. Was kind of enlighting to watch it from the otherside but took no pleasure in it, but seen where I was.
The win came when he missed a short bogey putt and I had to hit a 7 footer for the win, back of the cup never a doubted ( not being prideful) but that is the difference when you have the right mideset. WOW, what a big difference my mindset and "Think Box. Play Box" has made in me overall.
It has helped me to see in this short time what I know works and what I can incorperate from here to enhance my game. When you think things can't get better from this forum and @Tom Saguto they just do.
Looking forward to regular league play today.
Hope this is an inspiration to someone out there.
And @tomhayes188 & @Tom Saguto .
Yes it does work. And will verify it Wednesday. Last Wednesay just went out and played and didn't focus all that much. hot day after ealry tee time the day before . Just enjoyed the round and was revelling in my win form the day before. Yes, shots were more inconsistent and scoring wasn't there. Mostly on long and mid irons and driving a bit. But Short game was there as usual, but that is different for me. So I think with that little experiment any doubt is removed from both conscious & subconscious!
Ready to start the "meat" of the season.
