After a string of solid rounds (last 10 all under 80 and 8 rounds under 77), today I had a completely terrible round. Ball striking was really good, but 30mph wind was brutal. Unlike usual, short game was a bit off and even when I hit really nice pitches or chips to save, I missed easy putts. Posted an 85.
Figured I would post for discussion. After a bad round what do you do to get back on track?
Normally, if I have one bad round, I don’t even think about it again unless I have a noticeable problem. I have seen a trend In my last several rounds where I have not been wedging them ball very well. Distance control is really off And that’s taking away great scoring opportunities.
I have league tonight and playing a really difficult track tomorrow morning (league tomorrow night too). If not for that, I would be going to the range to purely dial in distance control. 50, 75, 100, 115, 125.
For each yardage, I like two options, high carry and lower one hop brakes! If I weren’t already playing tonight, that’s what I would have worked on the range.
Hoe about you? What is your routine?
@Steven - I thought you might be interested in Russell's comments on Arccos.
@Russell Hogue, PhD - I just pinned your post to draw some attention to it.
One random round like that doesn't bother me, especially if the ball striking is good and particularly in conditions such as those you described. But still it's always important to keep an eye out for "opportunity areas" in our game that appear to be trending in the wrong direction or are just simply not where we want them to be - as you have done - and formulating a specific plan of attack to address and correct them.
