For years I have always tracked these stats during my golf rounds:
Fairways Hit
Greens in Regulation
Putts
I then started tracking "Errors" to get an idea on how many shots I was blowing each round and if there was a patterns (chunked-thinned chips/pop-ups/shanks/etc.)
Just curious what others are tracking during their rounds. Is this helpful or just more stuff to think about?
Matt
Wow! Your not a PHd for nothin'! I'm also a data geek but I'm a little afraid of what Arcos would tell me š. I'll check it out. Thanks for sharing!
You can drill into roundsā¦see every shotā¦get more data than you ever need. :) I start tracking as soon as weather gets nice againā¦and I generally quit tracking for winter when I am working on my swing and when we quit playing the ball down.
@Matt Kelton did you come up with a solution? I am a bit of a stats junkie. I have data for virtually everything. 1. I use cobra connect on my clubs and it tracks every shot I hit and where I hit it. (Arccos is the company that makes it). 2. You can either get grips with sensors built in or you can even buy sensors that just screw into each club. The sensor activates when the club is taken out of bag and I have it paired with my watch. 3. The watch serves as a gps and smart caddie. After it gets enough data, on every shot, it will recommend a club that statistically gives you the best chance to make it. 4. This app also takes into account all sorts of variables for the club recommendation (elevation, barometric pressure, wind, temperature). 5. The app will breakdown and rate each part of your game showing exactly where you are gaining and losing strokes compared to your target handicap. Realize this app tracks actual course data and so itās not carry distanceā¦total distance. It also tracks, GIR, putts, sand, short game..trends, like where do you miss greens (with each club). I also use a launch monitor to determine exact carry yardages (half vs full swing).
Sounds like I need a watch upgrade! :)
Which Garmin do you use? I have the S10.
I am a stat man and where some can get caught-up in it during a round, I find it helpful to review after a round to see where I need to focus on my practice sessions the coming week.
FIR, GIR, putts per round and per hole is what I track but also up and downs from around the green.
I have a Garmin watch and the app gives me the opportunity to log the clubs I hit on the course via GPS which then tells me what clubs I'm accurate with, where my misses are etc.
Golfshot is a good free app which I would recommend especially to log information on your home course and see what holes you play well and which one you don't. I think it really helps with course management.
@Matt Kelton - I know that @Ian "Twiggy" Jones does quite a bit of stat compilation. Others here as well for sure, but he immediately came to mind because he just shared his scorecard from this past weekend!
