Ok. Played yesterday and shot 78 (With 3 double bogeys). But I could feel things weren’t right. I was toying with a new putter and had 4 3 jacks. I typically 3 putt less than 5% of the time.
Went out with high hopes today and birdied the first hole. The next 12 holes could best be described as a total trainwreck. Easily the worst I have played in years. Core problem, was not able to hit the ground where I wanted And all kinds of manipulations were happening to make up for it.
As we went to the 14th hole I decided to just do the weight forward drill and to hold the wedge with my right hand. To feel the club below my hands after the shot instead of going to the full finish. Immediately, I Started hitting the ball in the center of the face. With zero effort the ball was jumping off the face.
i played the last 4 holes 1 under, but the score wasn’t important at all. It was the feel of krispy AF golf shots. I hit a couple pulls but still serviceable and I immediately know how to fix it. Last drive of the day was 310 yards, draw from right of fairway to center…EXACTLY the shot I envisioned (And told my playing partners I was going to try and hit).
I left the round a little lighter in the wallet, but the lesson learned on the last four holes have me super excited. I am not sure I won’t just make the 90% drill my swing for the foreseeable future.
@Russell Hogue, PhD - You may be quite surprised at just how close to the real thing your version of that 90% drill is. # FeelAin'tReal.....
Btw - the weight forward drill combined with visually seeing the grid as my hand path/ club path, was the key to hitting either the draw or fade on demand. Next step is to get on the launch monitor with cameras to get the swing plane below the shoulders with no lifting. I feel like I was doing that on the last four holes, but until I am on camera I don’t believe it. Calling the worst round a huge success…
