Hi everybody! I'm Steve, I've been enrolled in the Saguto Golf School for about a month now. I found Tom's channel on Youtube and gave stack and tilt a try. I couldn't believe how well I struck the ball with just a few changes. I decided that this is the swing I'm sticking with. I've had some really good days with it and a few setbacks with my old habits trying to come back. But anyway here where I am so far. The great thing about Tom's school is you can video yourself and see things you need to work on. I'm hoping 2022 is my best ball striking year yet!

I think Tom's shoulder turn video (video is about shoulder turn only, but it can fix a ton of other stuff) would be worthwhile to watch and perform the drill in the video. Aside from the other things mentioned, his lead shoulder appears to travel more horizontally from the top vs. downward. Keeping the shoulders moving in a circle and maintaining shoulder rotation on the downswing by using the shoulders to swing the club vs arms is probably the most important movement in a good golf swing. The drill in the video I mentioned is not as easy as it looks if someone is coming from an arm/hands swing.
@Steve Napier - It looks like you have gotten plenty of help on diagnosing your swing.đ You've been given a lot of good drills to work through, but as tempting as it is to go start swinging, you really need to deep dive into Tom's content and learn the swing backwards and forwards. (The fast track program might be the one for you). One thing you will find out reading on this forum is that a lot of things are your preference...with a few exceptions. I'm not saying that anyone is wrong, I'm saying what makes it click for you versus everyone else might be different.
As far as analysis of the video, I think you have a good start for someone transitioning. As many have pointed out, your arms are currently working independently of your body. That is because you have lost your connection. The image below hopefully explains. The GREEN LOOKING "V" is theoretically where you arms should be at that moment in your downswing. Make sense? The "tee drill" that Tom referenced is a good one to work on this, or simply have that as your swing thought. Tom also has a "hogan arms" video on Youtube.
My observation is if someone tilts too far to the left at the top, there's a higher probability of tilting back to the right on the downswing. His position is very good at the top, but I think his body wants to revert to the right side given slightly too much tilt at the top. I could be wrong, but I've gone through this myself and have found (in mirrors) that the goal is to be stacked "straight up", not leaned left. It may feel like one is leaning left, but they're not. Just my observation.
Comments that I have read are spot on. Though, I hesitate to tell someone new to S&T they are tilting too much. Try thinking more about getting the hands in on the backswing. That may shallow your back swing just a little bit.
On the down swing use the âflying wedgeâ and 2.8 drill until you get really good at it. Keeping the trail wrist flexed back until past impact is key. It promotes a hands in front of club head strike and a stable face angle during the microseconds the ball is on the face. Finally, I think you need to extend your spine through the impact zone. It looks like your left side is still compressed. You should be compressed on the right side at impact and follow through. This makes it easier to tuck under. Tom mentions this in a couple of his videos, but I canât remember which ones.
From your own comments, I can tell you are aware enough to sense when the old swing invades your new swing. That will happen. The key is to get enough reps in to reinforce the new swing. Donât give up, a swing change is a difficult process. You will have some regression during the process. When this happens go back to the 2.8 drill. That drill is the awesome sauce for this swing change process.
Based on the comments I'm trying to make this swing more complicated! lol I guess there's a part of me that says "golf is hard, it can't be this simple."
also..i can't tell from the video because your lead arm is hiding your trail arm. But when I finally do see your trail arm on the downswing it's already getting extended. Look up the casting fix videos maybe? early extension of the trail arm. https://saguto.golf/courses/1118971/lectures/24319162
@GolfLivesMatter took my answer!! :) . little flippy. Through the 11s mark on the video you can see your hands are not in front of the ball at impact.
Just some quick comments. Good backswing, but maybe almost "too tilted" at the top, maybe...it's close. From the top, and even though you appear more loaded on the lead side, you appear to be throwing the club out on the downswing. The evidence is your right hand / wrists, release early on the downswing. It appears your lower body wants to move laterally....good....but your upper body wants to swing on your right side. Try to get upper and lower more connected. Your backswing is very long and that can make it more difficult to get the arms moving down fast enough to catch-up with your lower body, thus a more right side "flip" swing.
I understand Tom!
Welcome to this great Forum Community, @Steve Napier!!
I know you will understand that I must refrain from engaging directly in swing analyses here in the Forum - whether it be video or still photo sequences - as it conflicts with the V1 Swing Video Analysis lessons I offer. However, this does not preclude other members from commenting on such uploads, and many of the "regulars" here have a solid knowledge of the swing and can offer very valuable insight from their respective experiences. In this regard, if you do not receive many responses I suggest looking through the Forum to see who some of these folks are, and then tagging them directly. I see that @Doug S has already commented. I'll tag a few more for you to show you how to do it since this is your first post. @Nocona Colt Abernathy, @burkholder.ronald, @Gerry_Lager, @GolfLivesMatter - any thoughts or suggestions you might be able to offer to Steve?
Here's to the best and most enjoyable golf of your life in 2022!!
Tom
