It just doesn't make any sense that a faster backswing creates more speed at impact. No matter what, your swing has to stop at the top. Doesn't matter how quickly you get there, you still have to stop, and then change directions. Find the tempo that works best for you that results in the best compression at impact.
@jthibodeau1991 - Watch a PGA/LPGA/Champions Tour event and take note of the wide disparity of backswing tempos and overall swing rhythms in general. The answer is two parts: 1) we don't hit the ball in the backswing, and 2) find the rhythm/tempo that performs best for you from the perspectives of both sequencing and swing speed, and then lock it in.
i just found it interesting because rory was talking about how a faster backswing creates more power on the way back. I assumed the opposite because you can store more energy by a medium/slow tempo instead of using a lot of energy on the way back. The energy transfer is at impact so why waste it on the way back.
Again, it's a matter of what works best for the individual golfer. Watch one of this week's tournaments on TV - you'll see slow, fast, and everything in between on display from the best players in the world.
For me, absolutely not. A slow take away, with a straight lead arm, puts me in position for good speed. If I take it away quickly I never get into the correct path.
He has trained heavily for that. Unless you are up for it step back. Try some things on the driving range. I think you'll see what works. Look at Tom's videos. He's a pga professional and he has a great rhythm. I think the problem with most amateurs is they think they are Pros.
