The golf journey that I have been on has been the most gratifying as I learn the Saguto golf swing . My consistency and distance has made a remarkable setup .
I believe what’s left for me is too continue honing the “crispy “ techniques and increasing swing speed . I am 60 years old and drive pretty consistently 225-235 yards . My goal is too get 250 yards consistently - the last mile is always the hardest . Any ideas how to increase swing speed? I hate to admit it , that I maybe reaching my max yardage .
@Tom Saguto thank you Tom for the heads up . Got it
Ian I assume with the gains you have achieved , would you recommend the super speed system ? Also as you work through level 2 and 3 it would be really helpful to understand the gains from level 1 you are achieving. Just checked out the website the session look intense . Thank you for sharing your experience.
My suggestions are first to properly learn and ingrain the swing motions, building up to either Drill 2.8 in the Golf Swing Simplified course, which is actually is the full swing minus just a couple of power accumulators. Ingrain it. Master it. Build confidence in it. Once you are able to trust this basic swing you'll be able to "let go" and at that point your distance will noticeably increase. Then start working through the Power + Distance course and build in those power accumulators to take it to the next level.
Also, consider Padraig Harrington who just won the US Senior Open, hitting the ball further now at 50 than he did in his prime. He has accomplished this through swing speed training exercises, and you can see some of this in his pre-shot routine. When I watched his swing, what was most notable to me was the amount of spine extension he was getting in his backswing. This natural flexing (address), extending (top), re-flexing (start of downswing), and re-extending ("tucking the butt through the zone) is both body-friendly and hugely powerful.
We haven't seen much from fellow member @Ian "Twiggy" Jones here of late, but he was going through some similar speed training regimens himself and was reaping noticeable improvements in clubhead speed and distance. More speed and distance is available to all of us if we properly dedicate ourselves to the process!
I am 58 just got back into golf in March, hadn't touched a golf club in over 30yrs. I can barely hit the driver 200yards. I was a little amazed the other day when I stopped in at Dicks and hit a Calaway # 3 wood 191 yards. Good luck on your quest for 250.
@mikepsharma I assume you are not ready to move up to the next tee box.
I have been wrestling with this problem for a few years myself. I’m 70, will be 71 in October. I am in relatively good health and can still generate 90 to 95 swing speed with the driver and average around 225 yards off the tee box. I usually play the tee box that is around 6000 yards. I can score reasonably at that range.
Obviously, swing speed is a major factor in distance. There are other factors but let’s assume those are all ok and we just want to swing faster. The key to that is really found in flexibility and core strength. Flexibility allows you to swing on a longer club head path. Core strength allows you to swing faster. Increasing both provides the best chance of hitting the ball further. Both require time and effort to reach meaningful gains. This assumes your swing mechanics are already providing the max swing speed given your current flexibility and core strength.
Tom has provided video instructions for power in his courses. If you are already proficient in these lessons then increasing flexibility and core strength is your next step.
The key is to make sure you can still put the club head sweet spot on the ball with a functional club face and swing path relationship.
Good luck!
