New Saguto Golf member. Really like the system.
Just feel really uncomfortable with Driver setup (used to setup with weight on back foot slightly and slight shoulder tilt to sweep up). Would normally drive 255-285. Would hit straight high ball or sometimes fade/slice. Good days and bad days.
Am having good initial results with my short and mid irons switching to Saguto golf (P/9/8/7)
Struggling with 4/5/6 irons, but am finally shifting my weight and getting to front side.
Backswing LOW and IN is a little weird still. Starting to trust it. Pointing shoulder at ball is not automatic yet.
Biggest concern is driver. My swing speed is normally around 100 mph.
With Saguto method it is down to 87-88 mph and not making good contact.
In comparison I am getting 80 - 82 mph with my 7 iron using Saguto method.
First time on range with Saguto method using driver was popping it up, shanking, low line drives. Ugly. Even the solid contacts were not very long. Maybe 250 max. Not getting usual ball height.
What are best vids for longer clubs and driver? I did review the Crash course in Driver. Makes sense but I am doing something very wrong. Feel very slow and lacking consistent point of contact I am kind of getting with irons.
Mojoman i wish i had you BAD driver swings
i would kill for 250 yards
right now my 8 iron goes farther than my driver
most only go 125-140 yards ,my screen says either 84 mph swing speed but 10000 back spin
or 2000 back spin and 65 mph swing speed also 140 yards
i did try rolling my wrists which you are not supposed to do and yardage went back up to 190 yards with low spin
i am very confused

I've been stuck in this vortex recently. I'm a bit confused because, even though I am really uncomfortable with a wider stance, and do it, my hips do not seem to have enough rotational freedom and my back leg already seems fully extended before I even attempt to begin my swing. Also, if we need/want even more weight forward for longer clubs, the front hip doesn't really have much laterally motion left, it's already maxed forward, so yeah... the hips have nowhere to go but rotate on the downswing. Short irons (5-PW) seem to be my jam at the moment, and also my utility wood (21 degree), but anything longer in my bag is really making me nervous. Staying positive, back-tracking lessons frequently.
Thanks for the comments and help.
The drill that convinced me that this was for real was the Flying Wedge drill.
I may take you up on the video analysis.
I practice in front of mirror and video my self quite a bit. It's never how it feels. I also use a swing speed monitor just to check efficiency. I actually had to see the numbers to believe the compact inside backswing not lifting arms was getting adequate swing speed.
It does. 😁
I am sure the slow driver swing speed and poor contact is a setup, sequencing, more weight needed on front are technique problems on my part, as well as not maintaining shoulder pointed at ball. I find that pointing my shoulder at ball and good shoulder turn adds 10 mph to swing.
Thanks Tom. The above all sounds like me as I learn this method. I was attracted to the Saguto training from your Hogan videos and when I say I get my weight "shifted" forward (for me) it means I am now trying to start with it 60% on front and have it be 70% by the time I am at the top of backswing like in your Hogan videos and then try to get it to move to 95% on downswing.
Before I was not getting my weight on front foot very well at all. Most shots were fat. I was taught traditional shift and lift and never shifted my weight well at all. Rarely took a divot in front of ball.
I am actually taking a divot in front of ball with short irons now more often, and getting ball first more of the time!
The longer irons and Driver need work. I will review the applicable video trainings again. The link to the one on lateral move first is good.
It is definitely a work in progress but the Saguto training is best I have seen- and I have tried a lot of them with limited success and being stuck in fat shot hell. LOL.
@Mojoman - First of all, be patient with yourself and the process. Frustration comes to those who try to jump ahead too quickly. This is a completely different motion than "shift & lift", and you really need to lock down the foundational elements - including the essential setup basics that many take for granted or skip outright - before advancing.
Having said that, your issues are absolutely normal and expected for a golfer who is just getting started with Stack & Tilt. Oftentimes when golfers are hitting their shorter irons well but are struggling with the longer clubs it can be attributed to one of the following:
1) They don't start with - or maintain - enough weight on the front side. In general with the longer clubs we should add a little more front weight load at address - more like 60/40 instead of the 55/45 prescribed for the other clubs. This forward weight should gradually increase to the top of the backswing (70/30) and build further on the downswing - approximately 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. (You should not feel like you are "shifting" your weight as your comment implies. Start with it forward and allow the body motions to gradually increase that forward load throughout the entirety of the swing.)
2) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact. This is common with the longer clubs as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing then their rotation takes over, changing the low point and rerouting the club. This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices. Here is a drill from the Fixing Common Swing Problems section specific to building in more lateral hip slide in the downswing.
3) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft length of the longer clubs encourages more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as you take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as you maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around you, it should put you in the proper position at the top so you can attack the ball from the inside.
This is a common issue that I am regularly asked to fix, so if yours doesn't relate to any of the above causes - or if it does and you are experiencing difficulty resolving it - we can always arrange for an online lesson or a V1 swing video analysis to pinpoint the culprit and offer an appropriate solution. However, since you are new my preference is that you slow down your pace of progress, backtrack to rework the basics (chapters 1 & 2 of the Golf Swing Simplified course or Part I and the first half of Part II in the Get Out and Go Play fast-track program). This will serve you - and your driver - quite well in the long run!
When I pop up drives it’s because I am opening hips/moving forward before making contact with ball, which causes the driver to undercut the ball. If I keep head behind ball and don’t start opening hips until I make contact I am good.
OK. Reviewed the Driver course in the curriculum. Will adjust ball position and setup and see what happens.
