I know the general rule is to get the ball on the green and rolling ASAP. Which I tend to agree with. Now to stick to that rule with no exception would mean using multiple lofted clubs, anything as low as a 6 all the way up to a lob wedge, that could be as many as 6-7 different clubs and lofts. I find that using basically 2-3 clubs suits me best, as I'm familiar with how the ball is gonna come off the face. I like to use my 8 iron, PW, and if necessary and the lie allows, my lob wedge(but I avoid using this unless I really have to). How about you guys?

@Rudi (from Munich) I am of the same mindset when Chipping onto the Green. I use a 56 SW from 40 yards “in” and the ball pops up and rolls out pretty good. Forward lean and divots when out 40 yards. i8 and i9 seem to run out fast and long….hard for me to master. So, will use what works!!! Trying to incorporate into my Short Game to bring my scores down. It is all about 80% Short Game to shave the strokes off.
Perhaps I do it wrong. At adress I have the wrist bow, so the shaft is leaning forward. Club is delofted and bounce is no problem. Holding this I slightly turn the hips and shoulders.
I guess that's not the Mickelson methode, but it works for me.
I have changed to the mickelson methode, which has more extreme wristbow than I did before. Now I am using the SW all the time and try to land the ball about 6 yards before the pin. The delofted club in this methode lets the ball run a small distance.
Using the same club seems to give me more consistency in controlling the lenght.
I am unable to read a green, so long runs with a 8 i are not the best idea for me.
When around the green I call it my trifecta... putter, 8i and 54w. The thought is to keep the ball on the ground and I usually use my 8i. I only use my 54w if I have to carry a bunker or there is not much green to work with and have to flop it on without rolling. And putter if I can. Since my greens in regulation is not always that good I really rely on that shot close to the green. Need to get that close and give myself chance for par. Worked for me today on 3 holes hence ended up +1 on 9 holes ;) . Parred those 3.
There are various schools of thought on this. For example, I saw a recent video of Trevino using everything from his wedges down to a 7 iron depending on carry and roll requirements of the shot. Others stick with the same club regardless. It'll be interesting to see what others say.
I'll pin your post to draw some attention to it.
