I guess this is part of the downswing so I am posting this for help in the downswing thread. I am a lefty golfer. I can hit the ball straight (maybe a little left), and able to hit the ball first then ground with no issue. However, my biggest issue is clubhead speed. I average around 60 mph. I don't know the clubhead speed for my driver but I can hit the driver 200 - 220 yards. Keep in mind, I am a 23 year old healthy dude so I know for sure I can hit it farther. I have hit the ball longer with my irons before last year but I really don't know how to add more clubhead speed. I think that my rotation is a problem and my pivot, but other than that I really don't know. Can you give me some tips to increase my clubhead speed?
Thanks!
@TuckTuck1234 by the way, the vast majority of your swing speed will come from your arm swinging and the wrists unhinging, etc. Rotation, or the pivot, is really about transporting the swinging arm club to the release point.
Once we see your move, we can easily help you get more speed.
If you are trying to add speed with your rotation... You will sabotage swing speed. Your lower body has the purpose of being a stable platform to let your arm/ club release without a ton of effort.
@TuckTuck1234 - Just to be certain, you did go through the entire first section of the course and master the setup, right? The reason I ask is that a lot of folks breeze through it without giving it the necessary attention. From the ground up there is nothing superfluous in the Stack & Tilt swing - in other words, everything with a purpose, and a purpose for everything. (For example, contrary to shift & lift where we may be taught to keep our trail foot perpendicular to the target line as a means of "creating resistance" in our trail side, in S&T we flare both feet out 10-20 degrees in order to facilitate a free flowing, inclined hip and shoulder turn.) I cannot emphasize this enough, as frustrations predominantly occur when students jump ahead in the curriculum without properly dedicating themselves to the foundational base upon which our consistently repeatable, powerful, low maintenance swing must be built. Chapter 1 of the Golf Swing Simplified program and Part I of Get Out & Go Play both address this.
Assuming that is the case, where are you at in the curriculum? This is an incremental learning program by design, and speed is not really a concern until we have taken ownership of the basic motion - for example, Drill 2.8 - to the point that we are able to trust it on autopilot. From there we can then begin to add the various power accumulators, although I would suggest that with 2.8 under your belt you should already be generating considerable more swing speed than what you are saying.
This may be a good time for a V1 Swing Video Analysis, an effective service that I highly recommend to everyone in the school. This will enable me to put my eyes on your swing, assess where you are at, provide specific corrective actions where appropriate, and ensure that things are moving along on the proper track. The process involves downloading the free V1 app and then submitting two videos to me through the app - one down-the-line (captured from your stance line, not the target line) and the other face-on. You'll find more information about the V1 Analysis on this page of the Saguto.Golf site: https://saguto.golf/p/lessons I cannot overstate the value of the V1 Analyses as a regular supplement to what you are learning in the school, especially if you wish to fast-track your progress.
Welcome to this great forum community!!
I went and got ping g425 irons a few days ago and while testing them (the store had a golf simulator) and my average was 60 mph for 7 iron. I have speeds greater than 60 mph before. 7 iron my best distance was 155 and driver my best distance is 280, but those times were just random and not constistant. I am fairly good with my shortgame especially chipping. So as for 100 to 50 yards pretty good the closer i am to the flag.
Hi @TuckTuck1234 & greetings,
@Tom Saguto & @Russell Hogue, PhD are the one here. I believe Russel was working on that over the winter.
Are you sure about that speed? and how did you determine that?
Because although I am 65 my speed is around 90 area and average 214 according to my Arccos sensors with a 73% middle hit. And trust me that's after dealing with years of slice monster, Thanks to Saguto Academy he has been slain!
Know you want to boom the ball, but you are only hitting driver at max 14 times a round and most times not that many do to hole layouts or distance for optimal placement for second shot.
How is the rest of the game?
100 to 50 yds. in and on the green is where you score in this game.
My thoughts know Tim & Russel will be a big help.
And welcome!
