Nope. Any internal rotation of the trail shoulder prior to impact will throw the downswing path out and over. It should just happen on its own post-impact as we move towards the finish.
@Kyle S. I don't connect those dots, especially given the fact that the trail arm should not fully straighten until after impact, nor do I notice any mention of it in the video you referenced. Besides, the internal rotation of the shoulder is not something to focus on or manipulate. It will just happen on autopilot at the appropriate time in a properly executed swing.
If you wish to learn about trail shoulder retraction (external rotation) you can start with this lesson from the Power + Distance section and continue on with the lessons that immediately follow it. Note that this power-adding move should not be practiced until the basic swing motions are fully ingrained.
@Tom Saguto Alright, I appreciate the insight Tom! More I was referring to the motion of the shoulder required to make that action in the video, but like you said it must all happen after impact. I'll go with that.
Some context, I've been struggling lately with coming way to inside which is resulting in a push or hook. So I've been working on finishing lower where the club head exits the arm pit, but still to shallow and looking for other possible culprits.
Last night I think I figured it out after your reply back. I was rolling a bit in the takeaway which resulted in the club getting lade off at the top of the backswing. Any links to club angle at the top of the backswing would be helpful if you have them handy. I know I've seen them someplace but not can't seem to find them.
@Kyle S. Nice job figuring out your takeaway issue!
The Takeaway section of Fixing Common Swing Problems includes content on rolling the hands and the club being too low, and there is additional content on the arms being too low and the club being laid off in the Top of Backswing section that immediately follows.
