I currently play the Wilson D7 irons and think they are one of best distance irons ever made. I was researching the 2022 Wilson D9 Forged irons recently and was impressed with the positive reviews. Everyone seems to love the feel and very happy with the distance and overall performance.
Going futher down the rabbit hole I found a set of slightlhy used 5-9, PW, AW D9 Forged w/graphite shafts on Ebay for about half the price of new retail. I put in a bid a bit below the asking price and to my surprise it was quickly accepted. They should arrive by next Friday.
I have never played graphite shafted irons, but based on my research, the stock Recoil DART shafts are fairly revolutionary and are turning long-time steel shaft aficioanods into graphite gurus.
Can't wait to get them and giving them a go. Now that I am hitting my irons much better than ever thanks to Tom, this was the logical time to make an upgrade. I really want to know what crispy contact feels with a forged face. Wish me luck!
Thanks for reading!
Well Christmas came early, and I got my Wilson D9 Forged irons about and hour ago. For being lightly used, they look great. They probably could be mistaken for brand new clubs.
I hit a few Almost Balls in my front yard with the 9 iron and they felt great and had a bit more distance I think than my D7s. Will be heading to the driving range this evening or tomorrow.
And they are so darn pretty.
No, I'm a PING guy on my 3rd set. Went to graphite 2 the last 2 sets and senior graphite flex this set. Quite a difference from 1st stiff steel shafts when I first started. Ah but time will do that!
Good luck and looking forward to report.
Congrats and good luck with your new irons, Bob! I'm sure you'll give the community a report after you've field tested them.
No but good luck.
