The more I watch the pros, the more it seems like they pick the ball out of greenside bunkers vs. blasting the ball with a resounding "thud" then a cloud of sand. Not always, but it seems where possible they prefer minimal sand impact. This would make sense to control distance and spin. Maybe it's an illusion? The would require phenomenal low point control to not blade the ball 70 yards, but of course if anyone has low point control, it would be the tour pros.

The hardest thing for me bunker play is remembering to follow through
For me, greenside the decision depends on the lie, type of sand and green to work with. But I am way more consistent with blast from greenside, IF sand is not wet!
If you're looking for one shot to use in the bunker, you won't have much luck. You have to assess your lie, the sand itself, do you need to ball to stop or run out, and about 5 other things. In the words of Kevin Kisner, "this ain't no hobby".
But...there are a couple of things that are generally true in bunkers. 1)You have to keep your weight forward. 2) Don't be steep into the ball unless it is plugged. 3) Use your shoulders and follow through 4)Don't lean the shaft forward (use the bounce).
@GolfLivesMatter Mr. Golf, I use the sand push behind the ball to blast it out. It is safe, for one thing.
You see a wide spectrum of techniques. Cantlay blasted a beauty the other day and Azinger remarked on the resounding "thud". Some pick it. Some do a controlled chunk and run. Many Tour pros deploy any given method depending on what the situation calls for. Yeah - these guys (and gals) are good....and they practice...a lot...
