So I am working on the flying wedge drill as well as the drill holding the alignment stick down the shaft of your club to help in keeping the club pointing down after impact etc…my problem is my rehersals are perfect but as soon as I put the ball in front of me I either scoop it or mis hit it…I go back to rehearsal and no issues …so I can do the drill when it doesnr count but can’t when it does…any thoughts or ideas?

This has been my number one issue since starting... here is how I finally "fixed" it. I tried the dandelion thing but Im just not that creative, lol. Tried to blur the ball - still didnt work - so I decided to "trick" my brain. I look at the front of he ball, not the top or back, I imagine that is the bottom of my swing and it makes me go thru the ball. I know it sounds ridiculous, but it works for a former baseball player who couldnt break the "hit the ball" spell.
Andrew Bogdan - maybe you have the yips? Say to the ball, "I'm going to rain fire down on you, and you will go screaming off the ground!"
I can't say it any better than @burkholder.ronald. Conquering the "hit" instinct is one of the most common challenges among amateur golfer. Think of other ball and stick/racket sports. Baseball: see ball, hit ball. Tennis: see ball, hit ball. Golf: see ball, pretend ball not there. Wait. WHAT???? It's really counter to what the brain has been repetitively trained to do.....
Great thoughts …peeling carrots it is…I’ll let you know if that helps!
Sounds like your focus goes to hitting the ball. When the ball is there, you need a different focus. You don’t want to hit the ball. You want to send the club head to the target with the ball being in the club head’s path to the target. In order for the body to perform the sequence of motions required for the golf swing the brain needs a task to perform.
There are a couple of tasks that seem to work for golfers. One is to visualize the ball as a dandelion and your task is to cut through the stem of the dandelion with the leading edge of the club head.
Another is to peel carrots. This is a really good task for getting that long slice through the turf.
The point is if the task is to hit the ball the brain will command the most efficient sequence of muscle movements to ensure you strike the ball. That will usually be a lift a chop motion.
