I am done with swing changes. I am saving hours a week not watching YouTube videos on the golf swing. Just trust this. You will have your struggles but they can be fixed much easier with this swing. My best advice:
'Short' Swing - take what you think is a half swing and video yourself. I guarantee it will feel like a 1/2 swing, but will be a full swing, and maybe more.
Tilt, Tilt, Tilt! I can never tilt enough. Even when I feel like I am over-tilting, I am not. Flat shoulders will kill you.
Head Still. Can't stress this one enough. Keep the head dead still and feel like everything is turning around in a circle underneath your neck.
Practice the 2.8 drill repeatedly! I still use this drill every week. Go to the 5:58 mark and watch Tom's two swings through 6:30. Do they look like huge swings? Does the backswing look 'short'? Does he look like he's putting a lot of effort into the swing? Compare that swing to yours. I bet his has a lot less moving parts.
If you are struggling, just play with the 2.8 drill. You may hit is a little shorter, but it will be straight. Just get up and down 50% of the time and your scores will plummet.
you hit the nail on the head. Shorten the backswing. All of your advice was great. Can’t wait to get out there today. I know Toms system works. You are helping me get a few kinks out. I’m killing it with solid contact. Love to hear about your chipping haha
I saw a video of Tom's last night and thought of your 700 swing changes. Although I now have 'one swing', I still have many different 'swing thoughts'. It goes back to the 'real vs feel'. Some days a particular swing thought helps me to accomplish a motion in the swing, such as not taking the club back too far, or for me most often, the tilt and movement of the right shoulder on the downswing. This helps me with preventing 'over the top'. I saw this video and it reminded me of a good swing thought I had early on in learning this swing and it really helped. I actually forgot about this one, even though I have it in my practice journal. https://youtu.be/V_px7Qmd-o8
When i start doing hitting straight left (basically a strong pull) it tells me my right shoulder is not coming under on the downswing, meaning the right shoulder is coming 'over the top'. A couple of fixes, whatever feels best to you. First, make sure you have enough tilt on the backswing, meaning left shoulder down. You can keep all of your weight on the left side and maintain the wedge, but you can still not tilt enough. Assuming you have enough tilt on the backswing, pause and check the point where the left shoulder is. I want mine feeling it is just inside my left big toe. Now as make the transition, get the feeling that the right shoulder is going to come inside and under that point where your left shoulder was. Practice it slow motion. Make sure your right elbow stays tucked and tight to the body. If it separates, it is hard to get the right shoulder tilting down. If that feeling isn't working, try having the feeling that the right shoulder is dropping down to your right heel as you initiate the downswing with the left 'bump'. It will be damn near impossible to have that pull when you keep that right shoulder down and under and the right elbow tucked. What you will start seeing is a nice draw. Good luck.
Had time to think about your answer. That was a very thoughtful answer. Thank you! You are right. Seems like you get Toms system. This is the closest I have ever come to stop the steep start of the downswing.
I videoed my swing today and was back to my lift to the top. Started trying to bring my hands and club around. It seemed to the the club on the right pathWhat are your thoughts on the backswing? You OWN the downswing
Thanks again.
Love to hear Toms thoughts as well.
my joke is over the last two years I’ve made 700 swing changes. I’ve got my fingers crossed with Tom
Only 700? Those are rookie #'s.
