Hey there Saguto golfers and golfettes!
Hope you are all healthy and well. Ive been working on my tranisiton to the stack and tilt model and thanks to Tom my game has already improved so much! I am still having trouble with consistent impact and after some swing analysis I attribute my inconsistency to lifting my trail foot prior to impact. Would this be considered early extension?
@Ochoa8a - I'm very glad to know that you've experienced such improvement so far - well done!!
Oftentimes when golfers are transitioning from a swing model that involved shifting into the trail side, the weight-forward component of the Stack and Tilt method takes some time to really ingrain. As I regularly tell folks, the "ghosts of swings past" do not go away easily, and this particular one can be quite stubborn!
In S&T you start with your weight forward (55/45 on the front side; 60/40 for the longer clubs), increase that same weight forward to the top of the backswing (70/30), and further increase the forward weight during the downswing from halfway down (80/20) through impact (90/10) and to the finish at 95/5 forward. The key motion to getting that weight to move forward in the downswing is our lateral hip slide; we need to keep the hips moving towards the target through the entire downswing (while maintaining our swing center, of course) and into impact. If the hips stop their lateral slide before impact their rotation will take over. This can reroute the downswing path, cause us to "spin out", and yes - also result in early extension. Any or all of these can cause undesirable ball flights and loss of power.
Check out THIS LESSON/DRILL on lateral hip slide from the Fixing Common Swing Problems section. I recommend spending some time working on this and beating down that old ghost. Let's see if it helps you resolve your issue and delivers more consistently crispy strikes for you.
Please keep me posted!
