Had a disaster today.. and i couldn’t figure it out for the life of me..everything “felt” ok but I had no power, unexpected shanks.. chipping.. lets not talk about chipping and overall it was a mess.. and yes ill post the video as soon as ive edited it..
I guess the good news is no clubs ended up in the lake, or wrapped around the many trees i seemed to find.
so got back to the hotel and played back the footage.. and saw the issue straight away.. i was coming over the top.. it was not as pronounced as previously but holy cow it affects things..
the only reason i think it crept into todays round is I was a little tired and my shoulders have been really tight and stiff for a few days where ive over done things a bit working in the new house, then i drove for 4 hours and went out on the course and played
Its back to the range time and work on those drills but, fatigue seems to have a huge impact on my concentration and my swing thoughts..
Any tips on how to manage this? Or should i just resign myself to if im fatigued, im not likely to have a decent game?
@Tom Saguto help! Lol
@Bazza Clarke - Hmm.....sounds like golf to me...😎
The good news is that you were able to figure it out immediately thereafter. Nice job with the self-diagnosis! Beyond this, it’s a very good idea to have a reliable “default swing” that you can dial up mid-round when you sense that you are leaking some oil. Many members use the swing provided by Drill 2.8, which is actually the full swing minus just a couple of power accumulators. You can also use the Flying Wedge or 90% Weight Forward.
You can still muster up a decent game when you are not feeling 100%. The key is to know your tendencies in those situations.
Were you working on some sort of isolated move / position in your swing prior to the round? Could be the grip, weight distribution, shoulder down, stance width, dropping the club inside on the downswing, ball position, etc.
I always review my notes because after a bad round and have found that one particular "fix" was not really a fix, but actually a detriment to my swing.
@Bazza Clarke Hi Bazza, if I drive 4 hours, did house projects, all before golf, anyone’s game would be in the ditch. Before golf, no strenuous activities. Are you a Hero, all things to all people? Or, focused on only golf for the day.
I'm a HUGE proponent of stretching before I play. If possible hit a few balls before you play. I'm 58 and it takes a bit to get the wheels greased. Can't go from the office chair to the tee box in an instant. So find some exercises you can do at the course before you play.
@Bazza Clarke it is hard to always have your A game on the course. I think you figured out what the problem was. The secret is to be able to acquire your focus during the pre round warmup and maintain it when the inevitable bad shots happen. I wouldn’t worry about that round. Do some drills to get the in to out club path grooved and get back out there.
Good luck!
