I got the swing caddie that came with the case and an external battery. it was 414 with free delivery from Amazon.
I had no idea what to expect but I took it with me last Sunday to my warm-up before I played 18 holes on that small 66-par course. I set it up and swung away. I was hitting the ball like garbage and I was also pressed for time because of my tee time. it took a few shots and things came around. I also took it yesterday to hit 100 or so balls and today I smacked about 50 balls. All these practice rounds are on grass.
I have about 100 shots cataloged.
This thing is very technical. Too technical for me when it comes to everything it does. I looked at a lot of launchers but this one got good reviews even though it is not as spot on accurate as the big machines but I don't think it means much in the grand scheme of my playing abilities but it gives some really good information that I can use to practice to get better.
So if we go down a list in the APP that you can download, you get
CARRY, TOTAL, SWING SPEED, LAUNCH ANGLE, SMASH FACTOR, AND INDEX.
I have no idea what a "smash Factor" is and I will assume the "apex" is how high the ball went. I will also ignore the launch angle for the time being and concentrate on CARRY and SWING SPEED.
Let's use the 9 iron as my best example (comes with a remote control you can change when you change clubs)
The farthest I hit my 9 iron was, According to this, 162 with a swing speed of 81. out of the 60 balls I hit, it was the only one so I threw it out of the mix as an error when I try to do a fair average I average 134 with my iron( but I added in some bad shots as well. so I am going to say with the other outings that 140 would be closer to the average. The swing speed is all over the place but I feel like it is the factor I must work on the most. Fastest was 101 and the ball went 134. I am sure I did not hit it well. The lowest was 75.4 and the ball went 146 but the very next ball went 151 with a swing speed of 77.6. Overall it is a great tool in my opinion. I am hitting the ball more consistently. Sometimes I hit the same distance with a big difference in swing speed so I am thinking that this is where apex will come into play. The ball I hit at 162 had an apex of 101.6 the shot of 151 had an apex of 94.9 and the shot of 146 was 93.8
Lots of good stuff to work on and as you can see I am all over the place. I think the tempo is where I fail the most and now I have something to help me gauge it. It is a great product to me. when I figure out all the graphs and things I will start to print the spreadsheets out if anyone is interested. I can't be more excited about my game and I am damn glad to be here.
I need to slow down. I have also found that when I take the club back slowly and get to the point where the shoulder needs to be and then start the downswing I achieve great results. Now I need to do it all the time. And I will.
Any questions or even suggestions would be great for me.
Tom, great report and introduction review of a product I have been researching as an addition to my golf gadgets as well. Ronald did a great insight on the smash factor. I liken it to the "crispy KFC feeling" at contact. That feeling of hitting a marshmallow instead of the usual chuck of concrete. Congratulations and I will patiently await future performance reviews of the Swing Caddie. Which model did you go with BTW?
