Back on the horse again after 3 great rounds of golf where everything made sense, back to back to back Pars, an Eagle and nearly broke 80, and then a total and utter collapse when nothing felt the same.... Took a week off completely and went to the range yesterday and tried to go back to basics. Concentrating on anti over the top, setting up with a big rubber ball holder in front of ball to try and ingrain this. Looking at videos, it seems that I'm coming from the inside, but looks like club path is already past where it should be at contact point. Everything is slightly hooky and a lot of fat shots. Do I have the ball too far forward? The fats were much worse with 4i Hybrid off the matt.
Any help is appreciated. Am playing 18 tomorrow, and will get a down the line and facing video to send to you Tom, as it's been a while since my last V1.
Cheers!
Adam
I am no expert by any means but if you hit a fat shot, then your weight went back to the trail leg somewhere in the downswing probably.
Your backswing is very good, but you release the club very early on the downswing.
Thanks Tom and Nocona. Will go nuts on set up tomorrow. V1 coming your way at the weekend, hopefully consistency coming!
@1759adam - Without getting into doing an analysis here, I concur with @Nocona Colt Abernathy in that you should first default to checking your setup before considering any kind of swing intervention. It's quite apparent from your recent results that things had been working for you and translating quite well to the course. We all fall into the trap of getting too comfortable, and we then begin to take our grip, stance, posture, alignment, ball position, etc. for granted, but without proper attention these things do have a tendency to creep on us over time. 90% of the result is already determined before we even take the club back, yet I've seen so many folks make a mess out of an already sound swing because they overlooked or did not consider the foundational elements of the setup.
Also, apologies to Tom, as he identified too much shift on the downswing in a previous V1 lesson and it's worked its way back in again........The trouble is, my absolute nightmare/embarrassing shot is a way over the top, face open right angle toe slice. When the over the top inevitably creeps back into my game, I go on the attack with anti over the top measures and veer too much to inside out. This game gets you every way...!
Thanks, Nocona. Really appreciate your input. It's really difficult to get face on shots at the ranges over here in UK as they're quite narrow, but will try tomorrow out on the course. I'm setting up intentionally for a draw with my feet/shoulders but obviously way over doing it....!! I'll go back to a much more neutral stance tomorrow. I'm starting to think that maybe I am also sliding my weight laterally far too much on the downswing? Thanks again, Adam
@1759adam - Do you have a face-on view to post here? That would be very helpful for your fellow members to see, especially if one of your concerns is ball position.
@Nocona Colt Abernathy - Thoughts?
