Hey guys and gals, I've been absent on this forum for a while. The wife and I have been blessed with our first little one a couple months back. I've still been able to work on my swing in the meantime, I just wanted to post a little update on my progress and hopefully get some feedback from the Saguto Golf team!
Here's a couple videos from my garage setup with plastic balls so I don't break another window. (yes, I shattered a window from a shank a few months back. funny story actually.. I learned a lot about shanking since then. I was throwing the hosel at the ball and never realized it.. still have a tendency to do that, but chipping away at it)
Tom.. youโre 1 in a million! ๐
@joey puvel - Carolina Country Music Festival Cruise
@Nocona Colt Abernathy I took a little bit wider of a stance and tried feeling like I was putting more weight into the front side. Knee still straightens pretty early, this will be a little harder to fix for me. Slow and fast versions below

that is definitely an extreme example, Allen looks like he's the lead guitarist in a metal band on the weekends
Here's an even more extreme example of lead knee action from the book, @joey puvel!
@Nocona Colt Abernathy Awesome stuff.. thank you!!
- Ball Flight: I haven't been to a range or course in over a month. Last time I was there, I was hitting the ball nice and high, but with a mix of some tight draws, but mostly push cuts. Nothing that would put me out of play on a course to badly. recoverable shots, depending on the fairway layout.
- another point on ball flight: I was not controlling the club face very well at that point. been working on that. My swing has been going through almost constant changes so it's hard to pin down what my true issues are. over the course of my almost 7 month journey hitting this hard.. I've varied from hitting massive slices, to big hooks, to nice draws, to push straights, to push cuts, to straight shots.. all over. The proof will be in the pudding with where I sit now when it starts getting warmer outside here in PA.
- My lead leg/knee: I have noticed that for a long time now. I know exactly what you are pushing me toward, and @Tom Saguto's reply above with an image of the stack and tilt book is exactly what came up in my mind. I have not given much effort at all to getting that knee outside of the lead ankle. I see all the pros do that too. I haven't really figured out a way to properly practice it so I've left it for now and focused on other things I had good direction on how to fix. Your suggestion for remedying this will be put into my practice plan starting tonight! @Tom Saguto thanks for affirming his point (without giving any analysis yourself) haha.
@joey puvel - Have you got to play any or practice at the range? Just curious about your striking/ball flight? If I recall, you were hitting the ball low? I could be making that up! Sorry if I am.
Honestly, you're getting to the point where feedback/suggestions can seem nitpicky. As for the shanks, one thing I do see, especially in the face-on view, is your lead leg straightens a bit prematurely. This robs you of some power and can cause your club path to start working out-to-in. Again, it's not bad at all.
You want your hands more around your hips on the downswing before you let that lead leg straighten. I would literally just rehearse with you hands at your hips and your lead knee bend, then finish the swing.
@Tom Saguto - Chime in if you disagree with my suggestion!
Congratulations and welcome back, @joey puvel!!
I'm going to leave the detailed analysis to your fellow members here (and be sure to tag some of our regulars if you don't get responses). but I will say that on the surface your swing looks far too good for both a new golfer and a new dad!!
Sorry about the window, though I'm sure that was an effective way to learn how to stop shanking...๐
Keep up the great work (whenever wife and baby allow it)!!
