The word "baseline" might be a little misleading, as I have studied Tom's theory in the past, and have been working on it a lot over the past week, but for the most part, this setup and moves are new to me. I'm in my house as you can see, so not really taking a full swing, but mainly wanted some opinions on my basic set up and motions... and any specific drill recommendations are also greatly appreciated. Currently a 25 handicap, most common miss is a snap hook, and even though I tried to swing like a Saguto golfer yesterday, I still had a couple(snap hooks).. and I also had a few hosel rockets yesterday, which never occurred with my old swing... I am most definitely not saying that S&T made me shank but curious if anyone else had that issue early on when transitioning to this method.
Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks!
Thanks so much for the info Gerry. I have to admit, I've been focusing a lot on my lower body positions, so it's not surprising to hear my lower body(specifically knees) are doing something odd.
Thanks again! Much appreciated.
for one thing, without a ball in front of you your swing could be totally different. With that said..
1) at the 14 second mark in the face on view. your left knee moves away from the target. If this happens it's an indication your weight is not loading on your lead leg.
2) in the down the line view. A couple things. in the downswing your trail knee moves in. There's a video from @Tom Saguto that shows what should happen with your trail knee. It should not bow in like that. It might be an indication of over rotation or rotating too early.
3) you might have a bit of early extension. i.e. standing up a bit too early, that could cause a flip of the wrist and thus closing up the club face.
Thanks Tom! After I've had a few weeks to ingrain the initial drills, I plan to submit a baseline video for your V1 analysis.
@Julian ,
If you don't receive any replies over the weekend, feel free to tag some of the "regulars" who you see commenting on other posts here in the Video Analysis Room.
And no worries - you'll experience all sorts of weird and sideways shots during the initial phases of a swing change. It's absolutely normal!
