Hi everyone, just joined a couple of weeks ago. Bit of background : I'm a late starter, 66 now but only took up the game in 2019. I thought "I'll have a few lessons and learn to play this game properly, like those guys on tv" 😆. Well, a few lessons became over a dozen lessons and I didn't really feel as though I had improved at all. I'm semi-retired, and can't really play whenever I want to, so I hadn't actually played that much when the pandemic hit. I gradually went off the idea of playing and after the various lockdowns, I only played a couple of times. A few weeks ago I thought I would have another go. I had been watching some YouTube videos on the Easiest Swing for senior golfers, which, on the face of it, sounded just the thing for me. On a visit to the driving range, however, I discovered that it appeared to take just as much hand-eye coordination and split second timing as the traditional shifting your weight backwards and forwards method. I left the range feeling that it was either find a method that would give me some consistency, or give the game up altogether. I signed on here with Tom that afternoon. I've been working my way through the lessons and drills, but it's had to be just in the house up to now. This morning was my first visit back to the driving range. Now, don't get me wrong, not every shot was a winner, but when I concentrated on the movements I've been practicing, I was hitting some great, crisp shots. I stuck to chips and pitches and half swings, and my 7 iron half swing was going 120 yards with hardly any effort ( something my full swing was struggling to do three weeks ago ) I left the range for the very first time in a
Positive frame of mind. I have a net and a mat for the garden coming in the next few days, so I will be out there practicing before too long. I will do some video of my swing once I've got the hang of it and am confident the ball will go in the net and not through any windows. ( my wife isn't keen on it becoming a permanent garden feature, so hopefully it won't be too hard to dismantle 🤔 )
Sorry, didn't mean to turn this into an essay, so kudos and thanks if you're still with me this far. Just wanted to share my optimism and thanks to Tom at the start of what I'm confident will be a vastly improved golfing journey. 🙂
Cheers
Les
What a great progress update, @Les Shirt! 120-yard effortless half-swing 7 irons?? Sounds to me like you're on a good path!!
Thanks for sharing your "essay". Looking forward to future contributions from you here in the Forum community!!
